Luffy was not just a projectile. Loki provided the lightning and Momentum, Luffy’s provided the hax and force behind the punch. Both contributed. Yall just hate Luffy.

I think it's a little weird to say those launches don't actually help him especially when they're high velocity.

It's his own attack up until the point when somebody changes his state. If he turns into fire or lightning when he's also turned into a projectile then he basically becomes a fire cannonball or a lightning cannonball.
