If Imu couldn't permanently destroy Nika 800 years ago, it makes no sense for Blackbeard to suddenly have a shortcut that the literal king of the world doesn't. Logically, if the ultimate villain of the Void Century couldn't finish the job, a modern pirate shouldn't be able to either.
This creates a massive contradiction in how fans look at the power scaling and the lore. Here is why that theory falls apart when you look at how the story actually works:

1. The Power Scaling Doesn't Work
Imu controls the Ancient Weapons, commands the Gorosei, and has ruled the entire planet from the shadows for nearly a thousand years. If Imu’s absolute power was enough to crush the original, fully-realized Joy Boy, then Imu already represents the peak of "anti-Nika" capability. Blackbeard is a newcomer climbing the ranks. Claiming his darkness fruit is a bigger threat to Nika’s existence than the entity that originally destroyed the Ancient Kingdom doesn't add up narratively.

2. Combat Mechanic vs. Global Restructuring
There is a massive difference between Blackbeard's toolkit and what Imu actually accomplished:
  • Blackbeard’s power is just a temporary combat trick. The Yami Yami no Mi turns off a Devil Fruit ability, but only during a physical fight. It forces Luffy back into a normal human body, but it doesn't delete the Nika fruit from existence.
  • Imu’s power is systematic. Imu didn't just win a 1v1 brawl against Joy Boy; they literally restructured the entire world, flooded the planet, and erased a century of history to suppress the concept of liberation.

3. Why Nika is Still Around
If Imu is all-powerful and won the war, why does the Nika fruit still exist? It isn't a lack of power on Imu's part it's a fundamental rule of the One Piece universe. Devil Fruits simply cannot be destroyed.
When Joy Boy died, his fruit just went back into the reincarnation cycle. For 800 years, the World Government successfully hunted down and executed every single person who ate it before they could awaken it, which is why the fruit never became a global threat again until Luffy. Imu has no problem killing Nika's users. They just can't stop the fruit itself from respawning somewhere out in the wild.

The Reality
Blackbeard having the ability to grab Luffy and stop him from stretching doesn't mean he can achieve some grand cosmic feat that Imu failed to do. If the god-king who won the Void Century couldn't permanently extinguish the spark of Nika, a pirate with a darkness Logia isn't going to pull it off either. Imu is, and always has been, the final wall.
Maybe Imu is just a weak scared mook after what he went through in God Valley and has fallen off. Have u ever considered that?

Oda literally had Shanks tell everyone that Imu is "a being with power beyond imagination".

It's pretty clear that he wants Imu to be this allmighty God while simultaneously wanting to let Gaban, Loki and his golden goose Luffy look like monsters.

Oda simply doesn't realize that you can't have everything and once again taps into the trap of wanting way too much.

The result is this complete mess without any kind of tension and with Imu looking like an incompetent clown that we have now.

It's the same concept with his fake-out deaths: He wants to squeeze raw emotion out of the reader (dramatic death scene) while also actually wanting to keep the character alive (resolution that they somehow survived).

The result is once again that by now every single tension from the manga is gone, because we know there simply aren't any consequences.

Imu is powerful but far from perfect(couldnt kill Sabo, still thinking about Joyboy,Saturn did his own stuff secretly..)

That's what I mean with Oda wanting way too much.

Shanks telling everyone that Imu is "a being with power beyond imagination" is literally Oda telling the reader how they should view Imu.

On the other hand Oda himself constantly butchers this image he wants to create by making Imu look questionable in order to hype up other characters (Sabo, Loki, Luffy, Gaban) Oda wants the reader to also think of as really strong.

Oda simply lost the plot/his own narrative, that's all there's to it.

Yeah Oda wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Spot on.

It perfectly summarized what I've said a while ago and why I actually semi-quit OP after 20+ years of reading (now I'm only checking in every few weeks, read the chapters once and be done with it).

This has turned from a great shonen to a run-of-the-mill shonen with laughable plot coveniences, zero stakes and ultra repetitive writing.

I'm saying it right now and I 100% mean it: Any OP fan that clowns trashy shows like Solo Leveling for its "generic writing" should really take a step back, because OP hasn't been better than those shows for a long time now.
Honestly, I decided to drop One Piece if this arc end like this, and never return back to one piece. Because It's not worst your time to read adventure of a man, who met the cat
I have already quit discussing one piece power scaling. Oda wrote loki >> Gaban in harald FB only to give old gaban better feats against imu. Oda then had hajrudin of all people overpower imu. It's obvious oda doesn't care. Now even usopp can do something substantial against imu.
Yeah, 1991 chapter was awful, but this one killed One Piece.

Literally never happened
only to give old gaban better feats against imu
because gaban was always stronger

Admiral fans were always right for decades about oda using old men to hype admirals, while you turds were in denial with your yonkobums dying to rookies.

Imu is just another villain who got owned by the weakest old legend.
He needs many transformations to keep up with base nerfed admiral

Imu's power was called immeasurable by Shanks

I'm not sure if "immeasurable" means anything to you guys, but it does to me

Trying to calculate his power based on being punched a few times doesn't seem right

If Oda's self-insert says it, I trust that. He meant it. That shit is basically as absolute as Oda himself saying it if that's the case.

That means the stuff we're seeing here right now is child's play. It can't even be called a fraction of his power because nobody knows what fractions of his power even are.

I supposedly take a stance on knowing what conceptual powers can be measured as and even I don't know what to say about Imu yet.

If I can't measure it, I think you guys have no chance at it. That's the truth.

You're missing the entire point here.

Like I said - it doesn't matter at all what Oda says, if what he writes contradicts the exact same thing he said.

Imu's power being immeasurable? Sure, that's why he hasn't really put anyone out for good in 13 chapters of fighting (everyone he attacked is still up and kicking) and now is getting kicked around for the third chapter in a row.

Even if he is supposed to be so powerful - his actual portrayal doesn't match it one bit and with all those recent writing decisions Oda killed any last tension that was still in the arc. Nobody views Imu as a real threat anymore, even if they say so in order to defend Oda. They all know they're not feeling it anymore.

"Portrayal" is subjective and you're just writing your own narrative about it.

Anyway, if you want to be certain that Imu is weak then go ahead. I find it funny because you guys hyped him up so much that now you're mad he's not invincible.
