Gunko's upper body was disintegrated.
If the mechanical heart is central to the HK's regeneration process, Oda should've drawn it in, unaffected by the attack, while everything surrounding it blew up.
Instead, that detail which could've made everything clearer, is missing. Which either makes Oda lazy, or he hadn't conceptualized the regen yet at that point.

There's a non-zero chance Imu gets pushed to a third form. Not sayng it'll happen but I won't discard the possibility even if the more forms Imu shows, the worst it gets for him

This feels kinda weird tbh.

I think Oda is using Imu spending too much time in the underworld and the deaths of 2 Holy Roppo as major nerfs so Loki and Luffy can eventually send him back to Marijoa.

If he will keep progressively escalating his power then it's kinda implies Loki and Luffy will just end up strong enough by the end of the arc to beat him which would seriously undermine Imu’s portrayal as the final villain.
If Luffy and Loki can just overpower him in a straight fight it would completely deflate the portrayal Oda has been building around him as the ultimate threat.

Yeah, you can argue this isn’t Marijoa Imu at his theoretical peak ect but that doesn’t really change much overall imo.

I think it’s just that if the heart is destroyed from an attack that stalls regeneration the holy knight would die. If the heart is blown up from an attack that doesn’t, they’ll just regenerate
