Man's heart is in the right place, but, ya gotta see both sides. I love Teddy and Eisenhower, two amazing men, who, despite their flaws, worked so damn hard for their country/people around them. We really need to listen to Eisenhower, man. I was watching https://www.youtube.com/@DonShnack play... I think Shadow the Hedgehog, trying not to kill anyone in the entire game? And he randomly dropped Eisenhower warning about the Military Industrial Complex and I was like "oho"!
I understand why some conservatives are the way they are with the media, because I've seen myself examples of stories getting twisted by billionaire owned neo-liberal media to just made rednecks look like lying crazy people. We all live in systems that brainwash us, and force shit on us to make us act ways we never would have acted, if we were actually free.
I think One Piece does a great job of this. Wano is the way it is because ODA HATES JAPAN, he hates the ass-backwards conservatives that bitch about teenagers dating while simping for teenagers, he hates the corrupt politics/police, he hates the nepotism, he hates the sexism/racism/isolationism, THE ENTIRE ARC IS Oda bitching about how sick he is of Japan repeating the same damn cultural mistakes.
It's amazing.
My enjoyment of Wano completely changed when I realized it was an old, goofy Japanese guy taking the piss on his entire culture because he was so fed up with their refusal to change. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HATE THE SAMURAI: KAIDO'S RIGHT, THEY ARE IDIOTS. ODEN IS A FOOL OF A LORD. Momo, Hiyori, Tama, Toko, Yamato, King NEED TO LEARN from the failures of their predecessors, not try to emulate them.
Harald was the opposite: he refused to ignore the obvious truths about the people/groups/forces he was dealing with, and, believed good will could honestly change the hearts of people who shoot children to death for pleasure. But, HE WAS the same as Oden: they needed to be more conservative, to go, "hey, you know, maybe there's a reason my ancestors were actually mortal enemies with the people who shoot children to death for being a different race".
That's when I came to realize, my country has few conservatives and liberals in high positions of authority: one side doesn't conserve shit (certainly not children's virginities) and the other side has no actual interest in being liberal, they're just gatekeeping actual progressives.
This is why I DO believe Momo will be a better King/Shogun that Oden ever would be: Momo honestly understands the weak and different. He's been both. Oden never understood that. He was in a different world. Momo will develop CoC and become a strong ruler, BUT AFTER being a total weakling who can actually sympathize with those who have nothing/have everything taken away from them. At NO POINT was this child actually spoiled royalty, he was always in dangerous ass situations.
Momo is the Buggy of the New World/modern era, as much as I hate to admit it. He has respective for the conservative traditions of Wano that are functional, while being knowledgeable/brave enough to stand against the traditions that are stupid/racist/sexist by being liberal.
He's an actually balanced individual, unlike his ridiculous father. Toki would have been a good ruler, though, Toki is awesome. I think Hiyori will REALLY help Momo out, too.
I used to bitch about Oda refusing to continue Wano into Pluton/Act 4 directly after Act 3, but I've come to accept it's better because:
1. Wano Acts 1-3 were already long enough.
2. Giving Momo time to actually build back Wano and show his strengths is good. Momo isn't someone who likes fighting, he likes helping people: he's the male equivalent to Vivi.
When the Celestial Dragons attack Momo's very socialist Wano, Oda will grossly highlight how really evil the CDs are. I am so angry Hiyori is going to be the Shakky in a Human Hunt. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
