Nobody's saying he isn't trying to win the battles. But he isn't trying as hard as he could be.
The point that Oda is making is that Sanji got by with not bringing out his full potential for a long time, and that was all fine and dandy back then, but now he's at the point where he can't afford to keep treating himself like shit. He has to learn to love himself and he has to realize that if he's going to make it in this world, he'll have to fight with all his might. He can't afford to just let himself get hit constantly when he knows he can dodge and/or block these hits.

Again, how does a guy having low self worth/self hate lead him to not trying in battle he is fighting for others 99/100? Genuinely what is the correlation? Are you implying he is suicidal? He has self harm tendencies? He cuts himself?

As of now sanji fc got multiple explanation and they all suck just like his conclusion.
If he is fighting recklessly, how is that special? Why would that block him from having conquerors? Luffy must be the worst CoC user in history then lol
If he's permanently nerfed, why would his low self worth trigger suicidal tendencies in battles he isn't even fighting just for himself anyway? Even in his self worth state he is always talking how he'd die for others.
If sacrificing himself is what he needs to stop doing, will he stop helping his crewmates? Obviously he won't. Because in life or death situation characters constantly sacrifice and tank hits for others, it's a staple of the genre.
