He accepted death when there was nothing else he could do. Luffy was not choosing death there. He even said am sorry there. Keep them coming. Zoro was willing to die as a final resort when all else failed. Being ready to sacrifice your life is not same as looking for a place to die. They are two different things. Sanji was looking for a place to die, he even asks for a glorious death. While Zoro asks Kuma move some place else, so no one gets to find out what happened. "Nothing happened" quote embodies it perfectly. Zoro is not looking for glory or death, he accepts it because he has no choice, not because he always wanted to do it.
