It's not that they have to changed completely, but rather be challenged in their goals/Sense of duty/Morality etc...
Fucking barely has that ever happened until recently. Last good one was the fan favorite Luffy vs Usopp. That shit was great. fantastic.

I already wrote about Nami's character in Spoiler waiting room, if you need info on Chopper jusr read Peper posts. While Usopp is bad written, or basic written? God Usopp really?All three characters are unique, they written like real people would be written. They was never just a copies of other characters. They was never like other shonen characters like In FT, Naruto or Bleach, they habe their own personality, they was never ordinary characters. And just giving strenght to random new character will never mean that this character somehow is better than brilliant written characters. Like what in Yamato is better? Her personality is awful, she calls herself her lovely father main enemy. She as daughter was showed as true garbage, case if daughter could say that she don't give a fu*k if her father will die, I don't care about her reasons, she is trash than. Yamato need already get redeption from all that shit that she did. For now even her personality is easily losing to Ulty, Rebecca etc, I'm not ecen comparing her with SH. Stop using blindly statements.

Again I said depending on how it plays out if two characters. If it's an inconsequential clash, then yeah you can't jump to conclusions. But not all clashes are inconsequential. If the clash results in one side obviously getting overwhelmed and badly injured, that's a pretty good indication.

Projecting consequence generally involves being selectively biased. It is to want a conclusion and then latching onto something that seems to point in its direction. Like with your example, there's no way to tell what happens with Big Mom and Fujitora because we really don't know the full measure of either. They have very deep reserves and high reputations established by Oda, so you can't draw a conclusion based on something like that.

Look at all this confusion over Kinemon brought by the last few months, and now Kaido tells the whole samurai collective that they ain't hurtin' shit so all the power level discussions are back to square one. Just sit back and let it play out y'know

I will agree that in the past it hasn't exactly been done, but the fact that it is happening now is absolute credence to the fact that they are good characters. Nearly every Strawhats has put their goal/pride/main character attributes aside to improve for the greater good. that is a character arc and that is beautiful. I'm sorry man but I'm kinda pissed you've read all of one piece and still remain this fucking stupid

And Vergo who doesn’t even use the shin but the ankle should technically be worse off

Silvia needed a fucking titanium rod implant because both his legs broke, some gruelling 6 months to recover with extensive physical therapy and started taking steroids after this to dull the pain

Vergo does his causal skywalk afterwards and has all but forgotten about this bug named Sanji. His skywalk is a lot more powerful than Sanji’s as he has exclamation marks to highlight how powerful he is when he is literally flying Effortlessly on his part while chatting on the phone

Yamato personality is not all that bad she just idolizes somebody else to be strong and tough like they are. As well, she Admire someone else’s life the way they way did. I do admit though it is kind of creepy where she ends up calling herself oden in front Shinobu and momo. It possible she might suffer from isolation May have grown up environment that she couldn’t be herself. Luffy, idolizes shanks in terms of being a pirate. Garp freaking hates fact luffy was inspired by red hair to be pirate. The difference between both Garp and kaido parental figures ago. Garp wasn’t restricting for grandson path being pirate. He just didn’t seem care. Kaido on other hand we have no idea how he raise kid. We can say this he did limit her what she can possible do with her life. The fact she was unsure weather or not her father met if those explosive cuffs were real. Showed us that she feared her dad if she were going leave. I guess she challenge her father multiple times for her freedom but never was successful. Now that Luffy has free her she has found truth behind the shackles she had for 20 years. It comes as unforgivable from her perspective. She doesn’t care if father dies. Right now she distance herself from father to point she just calling him by real name and doesn’t consider her father Organization allies anymore. Now she wants help straw hats and kozkui cause in this war even further.

Well written character always has one meaning - character that has complete personality, like complete person with it's own psychology, so reader or viewer could easily guess what character will do, or wouldn't do in that or other situation. Btw complete personality means that characters attitude is understandble, due of facts his past, how he was raised and other circumstances. Also charactet should be not just ordinary person, and for sure that could be said about Nami and Usopp. They are unique...they create contrast between how normal person should act, and how act hmm insane person.
Now if you want to talk about Usopp...well he is liar, but he want to became from coward to brave warrior. But in reality long story short it's not that easy for character with that type of his personality. But Usopp is easily one of the best written character in whole One Piece .
And what well written means to you?!
