Character Discussion Luffy will never become a Yonko, he will become a "Great Pirate" which is a SUPERIOR TITLE.

Throughout One Piece, Oda has bestowed many titles upon Pirates, Supernovas/Worst Generation/Silver-Medalists/Yonko with the greatest of them all being Pirateking.

However there is another epithet that people barely ever mentions, because it is so rare and only TWO CHARACTERS have ever been associated to that title.

These two are

-Whitebeard in chapter 576 "The Great Pirate Edward Newgate", as he dies Oda chooses to refer to him not as a Yonko but as a Great Pirate, because his life as a Pirate is too overwhelmingly amazing for the chapter to simply be called "The Yonko Edward Newgate".

-Roger in CHAPTER 964, his title box says "The Great Pirate Gold Roger", this is Roger as he first learns about Oden being on WB's crew, Roger before he became PK was a GREAT PIRATE, which further proves this title is SUPERIOR to that of a Yonko.

TL:DR Luffy will never be a Yonko, he will jumps straight up to the superior rank : GREAT PIRATE and then becomes PK from there

Kaido as the strongest in the WORLD is a YONKOU.
Although kaido is not focused on piracy, KAIDO does not care if he is a YONKOU or not.

It's Jack's subordinates that says he is a great pirate known throughout the New World. Nothing official or related to his title.
For Kaido It's Law that says it on PH

The Yonko aren’t even gonna be known as the Yonko by the end of this arc...how are they gonna call themselves the Four Emperors when two of them are likely going down in Wano??

Beyond that, Luffy’s designation as the Fifth Emperor is really only a precursor to becoming Pirate King, not spending years toiling away in the shadows of other giants. He will be a Great Pirate as stated above, but only in the context of being known as THE greatest pirate when all is said and done.

I have no problem in assuming that AS a pirate, others can be> Kaido, especially when KAIDO never focused on piracy and left aside in the background.

In effect KAIDO is> That ANYONE.
In deeds too, Kaido simply does not exceed WB in reward for leaving piracy behind. I laughed a lot

Of course it's a greater title and it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. First of all we are all aware that the odds of seeing Luffy rendering Shanks his hat back before Kaido and Big Mom are defeated are extremely low. Second the title of great pirate is very indicative to a prelude of the final part of the manga where we will have a Luffy at least close to his EoS story counterpart, at least chapters wise.

Yes, unlike WB, who lived his days at sea, inside a pirate ship, doing piracy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. PK for kaido is secondary as is piracy.

People on this forum don't read the manga. Big Mom has Great Pirate title on her intro box. Kaido was also referred to as Great Pirate by Law.
Jack was thrown in that mix by his underlings but his standing is weak since his crew was shown overly hyping him.
If I'm not wrong I think Shiki was referred to as a great pirate in the strong world movie and the ed war chapter/episode (canon).

My assumption was always that people who reached the "Great pirate" status is when they can look eye to eye with Yonko crew...

So I wouldn't reject your idea. but it's not a title that necessarily surpasses Yonko because BM had it too
