Ye. Oda is never mundane. He had planned Ace's death as a trigger to Luffy's growth, you speak the pure language of truth. It was actually a top foreshadowing. Ace surviving could have meant the end for Luffy, refusing to train the same way he did.

The justifications for his idiocy are equally absurd and egocentric. Literally thousands of sons who loved Whitebeard as much as Ace put their lives at risk (and many indeed died), and yet all of them were smart enough to not let their feelings affect their reason. Only that hot-minded dumbass had to fall for Sakazuki's cheap provocations and waste his father's sacrifice and his brothers's deaths, causing with that the fall of the whole family, violence in the countries the crew protected and ultimately suffering all throughout the New World.

Assuming the others still trained perhaps no since Zoro could have defeated Doffy with Asura, but Luffy would have searched up for them it would appear. So who knows what would have happened and so whether or not they would have still be willing to finish their respective trainings.

Unpopular opinion here. I wish it wasn't Luffy to take down Doflamingo. I wished Oda would do something like "yo, they are going against a yonko now. Can't have Luffy still wasting time against a mere Shichibukai. Let his right hand or left hand man handle Doffy, while Luffy either handles the Admiral (not win, but at least hold his ground), or stays busy at the colleseum against Burgess, instead of needing ANOTHER powerup break in Wano.
