He will forever be Oda's Chosen Goon.

In terms of actual character development, yeah. WCI put all of his self-sacrificing into a different context.

Sanji cared about Nami and Usopp when he saved them from Enel, he cared about Robin when he got on the CP9 train, and of course he cared about Zoro when he offered Kuma his life instead to preserve his dream - we just now also know a lot of that was tied to extremely low self worth from his childhood.

Even when he was going through it with his genetic modifications, he thought about what a perfect soldier he could be for Luffy if he just let go of his emotions.

Sanji didn't only put others first because he cared about them, it was also because he didn't care much about himself. That's changed now.

Sanjino really built different.
It's like a Kafka + Shakespeare level of complexity, not gonna lie.
You really need to have a high IQ to even begin the odyssey of understanding the intricacies of Sanjino's character..
While other characters are straight out of Peppa Pig for their complexity.

Dunno about IQ, but I definitely think Sanji appeals more to people with high levels of empathy and lived experiences.

The low self worth thing, I’ve seen that in too many good people. The kind of people that would give you the shirt off their back are often incapable of accepting that same kind of consideration or affection of others because they don’t think they’re worthy. The kindest people often have been through all kinds of hell.

Peppa Pig is a more complex character than anything Shakespeare ever did. Raw unhinged emotional rich people causing tragic consequences with their unhinged behavior is not complex, it was social commentary.

Sanji up until WCI is someone who

1) has no to low self worth
2) won't ask for help
3) won't put women in danger

Luffy corrected those in WCI, with the "I can't be PK without you" stuff and this character development is finished in Wano with Black Maria scene. We can see this with the contrast parallel of Nami's Kalifa scene and Robin's Black Maria scene.

So yeah, Sanji has the biggest or at least 2nd biggest change among the SH.

Character development aside, I noticed that Sanji's gags are getting less and less annoying and doesn't appear as often anymore post Wano.

I mean we went from these atrocities:

To:

I mean the perverted gags are still there but it's not as horrendous as it once was like in Fishman Island or Punk Hazard which was peak degenerated Sanji was.

It's almost like Oda had enough and actually locked in and puts effort into drawing more badass moments for Sanji and less and less gags for Sanji but actually tamer this time around.

Are we actually getting pre-timeskip Sanji back?

Pre-TS Sanji already wanted to do that.
Yes. In Alabasta he literally asked Igaram where the women bath was while Nami and Vivi were bathing

And the bath house scene was a callback to thriller bark when Sanji said if he could go invisible he’d peep on the girls bath
Man.. It's hard to be a sanji fan sometimes
