he just wanted a family. Didn't say the family couldn't be murderers and criminals.
Oda portraying him as a saint never worked for me cause dude is a pirate emperor. Even if he was "good", a lot of his subordinates that he call sons, would have been actual pirates. They weren't running a pirate empire with a honest day's work lol.

he literally had Karma, the same guy that tried to kidnap and sell Toki to slavery, as a subordinate.
Squardo stabbed him in the heart first chance he got. That doesn't look good for wb or roger cause roger murdered Squardo's whole crew.
Then there's teach. Wb would have had no problem with him if bb just didn't kill Thatch.
We simply don't know enough about his allies to call them "good".
Also, one of the ways wbp made money was by turning in pirates they defeated to the wg and collecting their bounties. So they literally sold their fellow pirates into lifelong torture for money. That doesn't seem very good to me.
