Questions & Mysteries Anyone else feel Shanks is still hiding something major?

Hey folks,

I have been re-reading some chapters and I can not help but feel such as Shanks is still holding back some serious secrets. I know he’s always been mysterious, but with how Oda keeps dropping hints & giving him these sudden, epic moments such as that recent flex against the Kid Pirates we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

What is his real goal? Why does he have that weird influence with the Gorosei? And how the hell does he just show up anywhere at the perfect moment?


I am not saying he is evil or anything but I definitely think he’s more involved in the balance of power than we know. what you all think—am I reading too deep into this; or is Shanks still the biggest wildcard in the series??

Yeah, I think Oda still has a few twists concerning Shanks left to reveal.

We'll probably get a flashback filling in some gaps in his past. There's a few things we could still learn about him.

I'm very interested to see Bartolomeo show back up again, because I suspect that vial of "poison" wasn't as innocent as we were lead to believe. It might not have been "regular" poison, but "Devil Fruit" poison, to rid someone of Devil Fruit powers.

it was funny when he beat the allegations for 1 week and then the chapter after Shamrock was revealed he was like "Yeah Shanks was already back in Marie Geoise but he left again. I don't understand him..." or whatever it was. Even Doffy wasn't allowed to walk back in and live there again, much less choose to leave on his own and then not get bothered by the government.

I still maintain Shanks is the ruler of the Underworld in One Piece. This would explain all of his Yakuza theming, his connections and influence in the world while only maintaining a "weak" public fleet, why he had tabs on government ships trafficking devil fruits, why he could stop Kaido from arriving to Marineford, why the Fleet Admiral still listened to him and backed down at his orders even though he's a pirate now, etc.

These guys are Shanks' underlings, I think. Umit's shipping company last appeared in a Blackbeard scene.

Shanks so far has been a side character at best.
Even Kidd had more relevance to the story.
