General & Others Naruto Mastered What One Piece Still Struggles With

I like how Naruto handled its flashbacks and backstories better and short to the point throughout the series especially from the beginning to midway. They’re brief but they still feel complete.

I know the damage is already done but they should’ve taken the same approach.

For example, when Akainu was rambling about Dragon during the Summit War, there could’ve been a quick flashback showing where his parents were killed by pirates, him joining the academy, meeting Dragon and admiring him, sharing sake with him next to Kizaru and Fujitora and then Buster Call on Ohara happened. That’s it, just a simple one or two-episode flashback to summarize Akainu’s backstory in that moment.

Like Naruto, you could easily do that with every key character who shows up instead of making the fandom wait 20 years only to see their feats with no backstory, only to drag out the series even longer. I keep wondering how One Piece is still popular when we barely know anything about the story.

Oda isn't good at writing plot in the present so he uses flashbacks to "offscreen" plot so to speak. So he can write a garbage story and then fill in all the blanks in the flashbacks.

Yeah I agree with you. Getting kind of tiresome keeping so many characters in OP shrouded in mystery.
Because there is nothing besides mystery and trama porn. If Oda had stuff that he wanted to say then he would say it. Look at the SMILE situation. There was no payoff to the setup.

Fujishiro

Just chilling

I don't understand this argument tbh. Akainu never "rambled" about Dragon, beyond acknowledging Luffy as his son and that making him a threat, which is only logically consistent from the overall goal of marineford(though I find this dumb). Akainu having his backstory in Marineford, an arc about Ace isn't really needed. Similarly in Naruto, we get Itachi and Kisames backstory a decade after they are introduced(Itachi after his second death, and Kisame before his own death). Same story with Gai Sensei and probably some others

Naruto is simply superior one piece. Except for maybe gags

We liked the Characters, We liked the Action, We liked some Drama/Emotional Moments,
No need to praise Kishimoto's Writing beyond that,

The Plot was Very Simple & World Building was kept to a Minimum,
It only Focused mostly on those Three i mentioned above, but it lost it's way in Third Act,

This is bad writing. You don't want to just introduce stuff and then not follow-up on it. Additionally this creates plot holes. "If Luffy is a danger then why isn't the WG pursuing him?"

I would argue that the Itachi conflict and the overall pacing of Naruto was really bad post time skip, if not post Konoha Crush. A good example would be the mystery of how Trunks can turn into a SS.

  • 137. "The Young Man of Mystery" (謎の少年, Nazo no Shōnen)
  • 138. "The Second Super Saiyan" (ふたりめの超サイヤ人, Futarime no Sūpā Saiyajin)
  • 139. "Son Goku Comes Home" (帰って来た孫悟空, Kaette Kita Son Gokū)
  • 140. "The Boy From the Future" (未来から来た少年, Mirai kara Kita Shōnen)
  • 141. "The Terrifying Message" (恐怖のメッセージ, Kyōfu no Messeiji)
So mystery and reveal was within 5 chapters. Or another example would be the origins of Cell. That was explained in the same arc.

Oda does drag the arcs and keeps shit hidden for a long time no doubt but when the flashbacks hit they hit GOOD. Ohara, Hancock, Ace and Whitebeard, Luffy Ace and Sabo, Neptune and Otohime, Law and Doffy, BM and Elbaf, Kuma and Bonney flashbacks were written in perfectly. Some like Law and Doffy top anything that Naruto has ever written. Oden's flashback minus Oden himself is pretty great, it's just that his character is stinky

Ace is the Itachi of One Piece. Just kidding. I am just trying to formulate a retarded response to generate buzz. Honestly though I have not read/watched Naruto since I was a young boy. I think watching a bunch of kids trying to kill each other would be pretty jarring as an adult, that's why I appreciate One Piece as the characters are older. Except the princesses which are all 16 for some fucking reason.

flashbacks only hit hard if you like crybaby sob stories or trauma porn. The white beard story was especially ham fisted. Doffy was bad too.

Lmfao I know you a bait troll but you twerking harder than Cardi B if you think Doffy flashback is by any standards bad

Compared to Obiturd and Madara flashback, Doffy and Law is top tier writing. Obiturd’s reasons for destroying the world don’t come close to Law’s reasons for avenging Cora. Naruto hyperventilating for his criminal pal Sasuke is cringe and shit tier ass writing. Dont get me started on the incessant flashbacks to when they were kids like that shit still mean something after committing many crimes against humanity

There are many things Naruto did better than OP. Flashbacks not one of them
