How could they fight for their agenda otherwise.

Naruto spent an entire fight with Neji saying that you make your destiny and then he was the child of the prophecy and god and walking plot device.
Luffy literally is punch guy true and throughout
They’re in the same boat with the g5 retcon, yes Naruto was a contradiction but we still felt his growth and he’s a better point of view for a protagonist.

Luffy or should I say Nika is also the reincarnation of god in a story where the most delusional dreamers gets their reward. It kind of cheapens that aspect when the east blue rubber boy turned out to be destined to achieve all those because of fate.

Because of this g5 retcon, it feels like we’re just witnessing god save the day. No tension present, doesn’t help that Luffy himself is just a straightforward POV. No complexities present whenever he’s around, Naruto still felt more like an “alive“ character rather than a 100% plot device even when he was retconned to be the child of destiny.

I don’t care about the revisionism here. Back in the 2010s Naruto was being absolutely ripped apart as a character and was being shat on even worse than current oda/goofy is by OP fans. Luffy is a better character than Naruto by far

LMAO

naruto butt fucks goofy

Goofy is not a character
He has no character

He's just a walking plot device that stays in the background until he has to beat a boss character of the island.
He has no agency of his own whatsoever.
He doesn't grow as a character.
He stays same stagnant shit character that only eats, acts dumb and fights. You can replace Goofy with a brick that fights and it will be the same series. Goofy has no impact on the series at all.

Naruto in part 1 clears Luffy, but overall Luffy wins because part 2 really degraded Naruto as a character.

Luffy's character took a nosedive in part 2

Naruto's character while at annoying at times, never devolved like Luffy's
I disagree, Naruto in part 1 was the clumsy goofball that you can't help but root for because he tries his best against opponents that are far stronger or naturally gifted, he actually beats them most of the time due to the crazy strategies he creates in the heat of the moment

Naruto in part 2 became the generic let's all be friends good guy that doesn't have to train at all, he just gets powers gifted to him by godlike beings, completely destroying the things that made him a good character in part 1.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
Since day one it was about luffy overcoming incredible odds and saying the day.
Fate was also mentioned in chapter 1.
Luffy is not a reincarnation of nothing, unless you can show me the panel where this is said.

Not nearly as bad as Naruto part2, Naruto saying the guy that murdered his parents is a cool guy is laughable.

Luffy actually had to put in years and years of high level battle iq and training into mastering his fruit.

He awakened it through effort alone.

It's a funny scene, but in context it's not even a big deal as you casuals make it out to be.

Obito literally just saved Naruto's and Sasuke's life right before this, and chapters before was forgiven by Minato himself. It makes no sense in character for Naruto, the cheerful optimistic to hold a grudge when this guy basically saved the ninja world and was forgiven by his victim.

and it's not like he forgot about Obito's crimes, he literally tells Obito he needs to make up for it

Obito orchestrated a world war and was directly responsible for countless deaths.
It's like if Oda had tried to redeem Kaido.
Or if Oda had depicted Crocodile as a cool nice guy with a bad past .
There is no going back after you commit certain atrocities

I mean, he literally saved Ninja jesus multiple times lol. He indirectly saved the world as well.

I mean it's fine to have your qualms about it, but we are talking about Naruto's character. Him forgiving Obito and finding him "cool" does not devolve or even hurt his character. It is in line with how Kishi portrays Naruto and his message about redemption.

Reminder: He literally cried for Zabuza and Haku, 2 dudes who bragged about killing hundreds of people in part 1.

There is literally ancient text in Elbaf that depicts what will happen. Luffy is the child of prophecy, and became the very god that is Nika. It’s also implied that fruits have a will of their own, it likely chose Luffy and evaded the World Government. Call it fate or whatever, it was all according to the design of the gods. There‘s also heavy implications of reincarnation or something along those lines. “They shall meet again”.

Yes, Luffy overcame those odds because he was destined to do so. Not any different from what happened with Naruto, you can’t shit on one without shitting on the other. Both of them still worked hard and experienced hardships along the way.

Whenever I feel like reading a story with tension, i go back to Naruto and laugh at how trash One Piss is.

Yup, there are 2 popular archetypes for shounen protagonists. The blank slate ones like Goku, Luffy, Ichigo, and Gon (THE BLANDEST OF THEM ALL). There’s also the quote-unquote whiny protags like Naruto, Deku, Tanjiro, Ed (?).

Depends on the execution but the latter archetype is most of the time much more effective in raising the emotional stakes. Stakes, something that the current One Piece is entirely lacking. This is largely because the protagonists can’t convey any sort of effective emotion to begin with. We know that they’ll all win at the end of day, but it’s up to them to sell the intensity of the situation.

It’s a matter of preference though, one archetype isn’t inherently over another in terms of character enjoyment. In terms of emotionally driving the story however, characters like Tanjiro are much better at that.
