Joyboy reveal when?
‎
Also, can we talk about how retarded Hajrudin is? Loki's told him time and again that he had to kill Harald, that he hates that he had to do it, that it was necessary for Elbaf, etc., yet Hajru-halfbrain-din is still throwing tantrums like an 8-year-old, going all, "No, you can't be trusted, you can't be freed, boohoo!" It's like Oda's allergic to writing characters who can stop for two seconds and think things through.
Well said it was infuriating me too.

Replying here since spoilers section got locked.
I think it will increasingly be seen as a consensus opinion going forward.

Oda really dropped the ball hard with how he executed the final section of the Wano arc. Egghead had potential for Oda to make up, but what ended up happening was the final antagonists getting massively dehyped, and the predictable giga plot armour of the SHs ensuring zero relevant casualities.

I mentally checked out of the broader narrative by the end of Egghead.

For years, I had been a big pusher of gorosei. Always had them as top tiers, back when a lot of the readers though they were figureheads and weak.
I actually liked the contrast gorosei had with the standard CD, who were spoiled scumbags, while they had a nuanced, wise king type energy back in the days. Even during their intro in Ohara, while stern, they also had a more diplomatic side. They even tried to give an out for the researchers, and preferred evacuating the civilians.
They were repeatedly shown preferring stability and minimizing casualties. Even when Imu asked them to test mother flame on Lulucia, they would've rather used it on sea, and expressed concern towards civilian casualties, before being bullied into submission by Imu.

Oda had written Gorosei with more nuance than fodder CDs, as he usually do for many of his villains (Arlong, Doflamingo, Kaido, Moria). While they are to be seen as bad guys, there is more to them than meets the eyes.
I had initially speculated Gorosei to be 5 amongst the OG 20 kings.

But in Egghead, Oda threw it all out of the window. Made them straight up behave similar to trash like Charlos. Had Saturn kill marines and even some vice admirals. Made them effectively slaves of Imu, who are the source of their immortality.

And their feats really do suck too. The intro was fire, with massive conqueror's haki showcase from Saturn, "eye diff" of Sanji and Franky. Same with other Gorosei, big hype intros with haki. But later they just became regen merchants. Yes, part of it is the trope of "I can heal". But Oda just made them completely incompetent without accomplishing anything.
What did Saturn even do??? He was the arc's punching bag. FFS, dude was getting his arms chopped off by Brook!! And then, without a chance to redeem, got killed by Imu....
The other Gorosei didn't look good either, though they did have some shine. Classic case of just offense and regen basically, with zero defence (except Mars he was all defence and no offense lol).

All culminating with Imu himself getting dehyped!!
Dude was shivering at Joyboy's haki......... and then threw a temper tantrum and killed Saturn. WTF
I just hope this was a classic case of PTSD, similar to Kaido with Oden (it's likely the case). But even then, it was not time to dehype Imu at all, first hype this dude to the moon and show him as a monster before going into all of these (like prior saga bosses) ??

***********

In one piece, for each sage, half the hype/energy is from the overwhelming power and presence of the antagonists. Crocodile and Mr1, Enel (GOATed) in Skypiea, Lucci and CP9, Doflamingo, BM and Katakuri, Kaido.

Kaido is the worst amongst these antagonists.
But if we were to erase the finale of Wano, and see how Oda built up this dude. It was insane. He had THE BEST buildup in one piece ever, the entire post TS was buildup towards Kaido. From the rumours as a Yonko, buildup as the strongest, to his intro falling down from the sky and owning Kid's group, to then blitz one shotting post WCI Luffy after all the "5th emperor" gassing.
Absolutely unreal buildup.

Contrast that with Gorosei and Imu, Blackbeard and his goons.

I've already mentioned about Gorosei. But Blackbeard and his goons are even worse.
They too were characters I looked forward to eagerly before Egghead.
Just for Blackbeard to mid-high diff Law inspite of DF advantage (while Shanks one shotted his peer Kid), Shiryuu made look like a jobber by old Garp, and the other BBPs not even treated as an afterthought before getting shit on (except Augur, dude was great)

**********

All that being said, I haven't been this interested in the narrative for years!

The Shanks lore drop this chapter was amazing.
I hope we get some great backstory and narratives (not gonna hold my breath with current Oda tho).
Unfortunate that the discussions are all about conqueror's haki, which admittedly is a very poor and controversial decision from Oda IMO.

It really does seem that Shanks legit returned to becoming a celestial dragon once he grew up, pretty much fully confirmed.
What do you all think made Shanks quit and return to the surface/seas?

After the Gorosei's pathetic performance and dehype, I think I've read maybe 2 chapters till now.
Otherwise, I just read spoilers, or at times even skipped those.

The reveals and lore drops this chapter is so good that I might start reading again.
I'll wait for the next chapter also to drop, to see if it's going to be worth all the effort before I binge lol.
I am holding off imu till we see more and what all that was about benefit of the doubt

However I written the gorosei off. Not only did they lose any credible threat being Looney toons villains, in personally very disappointed in them character wise. They seem to be copy paste of each other character wise and incredibly boring, I hope they are not the final villains for z and s as people speculate as they are ass. Like the hks we seen so far, which we did for the same amount of panel time approx are way more interesting and entertaining

But I understand your point

Could not agree with both of you more nor say it better myself.

I wonder if the slave hunting is what broke Shanks or something or just seeing the true nature of the Celestials or something like the slave travelator.

Since Shanks said he wanted a carefree life, he's clearly Yoshikage Kira er I mean I can understand why he would like the Celestial Dragon lifestyle naturally, all that unbridled power and freedom, the opulence of it all too.

Shanks mind might have been in a very dark place and vulnerable to manipulation with the loss of Roger and thus dissolution of the Roger Pirates and thus whatever Roger said to him too. He lost his first real family, his found family with them. They all went their seperate ways and I guess in some ways, he instinctively, unintentionally follows a "deadbeat" lifestyle because of it too.

It kinda makes me think of how GOTG3 ended and the potential consequences of it, it was a very bittersweet ending for such a profound found family saga imo, I loved the GOTG whilst it lasted.

If Shank is the so called "Child of Destiny" and thus groomed to be the next Joyboy, the great saviour of the world, then that would inflict a burde non him like no other and the pressure of that would be immensely overwhelming, especially for someone so young and arguably "innocent" too.

If anything this adds some tragic great depth and layers to Shanks I had hoped for and suspected he had too. If it's true ofc.

But I completely agree about the Gorosei, story and what not. I'm slowly becoming number to Oda's nonsense. Imu has been extremely cool so far since they took over Gunko but Oda immensely ruined Imu for me before that and I always expected the Gorosei to be the secondary final villains to either Blackbeard or Akainu, especially now we know that Blackbeard doesn't just want to be pirate king but king of the world too. Like Xebec even.

Oda ruined Kaido and Big Mom so much too, its devastating, heartbreaking and infuriating. Irreedeemable. Same with the SHs especially Usopp.

So since the SHP who are set to fight gorosei are all learning how to handle regen now, do the gorosei have any fucking hype left??
Not for me. There's only so many times Oda can metaphorically burn us.

On a side note, I really did enjoy and love this chapter and it's art but the plot is so badly paced again as typical Oda. But at least we're finally getting answers on Harald and Loki after ALL this time, just at the worst timing possible, as typical Oda. Loki better have a great DF too for all this baiting for ages too. Please Oda, don't make it actually Nika adjacent somehow.

everything went to shit and the ginger snitch just happened to be there and we're somehow supposed to believe that he had nothing to do with harald becoming a demon...:pepeke:

that sneaky ass bich was tryina create an alibi by telling laban he hasn't spoken to harald yet but wants to.

also jarul was revolting this chapter. what a mealy-mouthed cunt. 'politics is for the young' sounds like code for 'i am allergic to accountability and refuse to answer for what I've already done'

Whatever Gaban had to say, Sanji didn’t like it.

Gaban either outright said he doesn’t have it, or something even more cutting about why Sanji doesn’t.

We will flashback to what was said around the time Sanji awakens CoC.
Really? He seems shocked more than anything. Next time we see him he’s just angry at the thought of Loki eating all their food

Really? He seems shocked more than anything. Next time we see him he’s just angry at the thought of Loki eating all their food
Yes, he looks shocked because what Gaban said was insightful despite not even knowing him.

I think he said something to the effect of "conquerors don't fear themselves" or something indicating Gaban immediately perceived a truth Sanji wasn't aware could be observed.

I brought the sanji-tards some hopium

so the flashback to king harald and alla that is 109 years ago

So I did 1152-109= 1043

And on that chapter the cover story has this:

A big vinsmoke book with a crown on top of it carried by Oven. So a crown could symbolise royalty, and the flashback is about king harald.

Now this is important because Oven is portrayed with Sanji:

So I think it's alluding that Sanji will eventually surpass jinbei this arc to become No.3 again like Oven is.

And I think the crown symbolising "kings haki" is too obvious, and sanji doesn't have a kingly ambition he just wants to find a puddle of water so we can say he has a queenly ambition.

So essentially what this means is it could point to Sanji getting Queens haki instead.

He'll awaken his okama eye and obtain okama queens haki, which is why scopper didn't know wtf he was looking at when sanji got in his personal space:
