Other than Luffy which Strawhat do you think is most important to the story?

Imo the answer is Nami

1- Luffy and Nami where the first ones to meet although Zoro was the first crew mate, he and Nami crossed paths on episodes one on Alvida's ship

2- without Nami's prowess as a navigator then the strawhats wouldn't have gotten as far as they have and she's pretty much the only strawhat that can't be replaced by someone just as good or better

3- Arlong Park gave us early signs of how the op world functions, discrimination, government corruption, flash back deaths Nami's arc is the early blue print that all major arcs have been following and showed us theres way more to this than just cops n robbers

4- She's always the most highlighted strawhat in cover hearts sometimes even more so than Luffy himself

5- she is being set up to grow into a powerhouse

So all in all Nami is the most important strawhat to the story of one piece othrr than Luffy

Robin, makes the strawhats able to read poneglyphs to find the one piece, high possibility its revealed Robin is luffy's sister, also Robin made them go after the government anyway, she also indirectly made them meet aokiji which made the strawhats introduced to the admirals in general.

My metric isn't simply the role, but what else you bring to the table.

He's not only pretty strong for a cook, but he was smart as hell back in pre timeskip.

Every arc had him do some big impact shenanigans that turned the tides. Mr Prince in Alabasta, sabotaging Enel's flying ship in Skypiea, following Robin in Water 7, opening the gates in Enies Lobby. Alabasta and EL especially matters the most, since crew just ends without those actions

The triggers of OP hasn't changed its always either Luffy + Nami or Luffy + Zoro or Luffy + Zoro + Nami

At the forefront on the crew decisions it's always these three.

This is also why I have Nami, possibly getting CoC not the rest of the crew, (but time will tell).

I would argue the only character with a hint of development after her is Sanji, who conveniently got an arc dedicated to him.
But if Luffy is a 10, Robin is like a 5, Sanji a 3 and the rest are 1.
