Batman (1989)

8/10

A classic from Tim Burton, with all the aesthetics, the amazing music by Danny Elfman, the mix of the ambiance of the 1960s Batman with 1990s darkness and Burton's ghotic style and dark humor. The star of the movie is really the Joker, played amazingly by Jack Nicholson, who had visibly lots of fun playing the character, and surely played the Joker version the most faithful to the comics, and is the best mix of humor and darkness of the Live-action Jokers, with him having truly embraced and incarnated the clown part of the Joker without losing the insanity and and frightening parts of the character.

The scene at the museum was particularly memorable with the Joker and his goons dancing and playing while vandalizing the museum arts with a catchy song tune.

Joyboy reveal when?
The First Purge, very mid film. Very forgettable, cliche, predictable. It just felt very apathetic and on the nose, ham-fisted.

The Forever Purge was much better than this but then again, I never expected these films to be any good at all, I just watched them out of morbid curiousity. It felt like it wanted to be Die Hard, John Wick, Rambo etc with parts of it too.

There's also some other glaring issues which I won't mention here but you can easily find them if you look it up and I agree on them. I can respect what the film was trying to do in some ways but it has a really extreme exceptionalism attitude, whilst ironically trying to condemn, criticise it. A parody of itself and its intentions.

Less than 2 weeks to the new Naked Gun though, I can't fucking wait. My inner child well maybe teenager is so fucking happy. I can't believe it's real and is so faithful/respectful to the originals and actually looks really freaking funny so far.

I also watched Mortdecai the other day out of curiousity and my god it was absolutely fucking awful. One of the worst films I've ever seen, easily.
It was agonising torture to watch through it, just never ending cringe, idiocy, immaturity and such, trying way too hard to be funny and imitate much better films and stories. Its the kind of film you could try to make someone you really hate watch it if you want them to really suffer, it genuinely could be used for torture.

It had a weird obsession with infedility/cuckoldry and thus "Jock Strapps's" explicit "love life" to the point he sleeps with a woman on a plane for a gag, then she comes out of the bathroom after him....to go up to her husband and take their newborn baby, claiming there was a "queue for the toilet", hence why "she took so long". Fucking sickening.

It tried so hard to be Austin Powers and Johnny English and it made them look like completely tragic, misundertood masterpieces, that never got the glory they deserved and were forgotten by the annals of time by comparison.

I probably could AI generate a much better script for this film than this shit. Sorry but I'm so pissed off at the film for being so insultingly bad with not a sense of "self awareness" and yet at myself too for actually watching it through, thus who is the stupider one here, the film or me? (Don't answer that.)

It also blatantly was the Gwyneth Paltrow worship show as if it wasn't narcissistically insufferable enough and thus cringe, unfunny, infuriating and dumb enough as it was.

Paul Bettany was hilarious, he hard carried the film as Jock, although know I know it was him in the role (kept making think of Vinnie Jones or Mark Strong instead), I cannot unsee it as Vision which makes the film much funnier than it actually is too, in hindsight. (Imagine Vision as a completely deadpan, stoic, hardened bodyguard but a nymphomaniac on the "down low" too.)

The film had some really cool cinematography in places, far too good for the film, there was an amazing shot of a plane flying through giant letters saying Moscow in all caps, like the Hollywood sign and some shots were genuinely beautiful and had such great composition. A few moments actually made me laugh, which made me hate the film more as it was obviously capable of far better, but chose to swing for the most low hanging fruits purposely instead, its not even incompetency and lack of talent but just complacementency from a superiority complex/overly smug ego/attitude.

I'm giving this more attention and thought than it deserves, but do yourself a favour and don't watch this film, ever lol. It's extremely crass, immature and thus gross at certain points too. There are much better films out there, the overwhelming hate/negative reviews for the film are totally justified for it imo. I try to be skeptical of the reviews when they bomb a film or game but usually they turn out to be justified but not always either.

Banshee Chapter
My favorite subgenre of horror is found footage.

Its creepy, atmospheric, with a few good jump scares. A great Lovecraftian type of movie.

Its about a reporter trying to find the truth behind the disappearance of her best friend after he consumed a mysterious drug.
The twist was decent.
