You visited Korea in the same trip, right? I have heard so many great things about Korean food. Korea should be pretty nice too.
Yea Korea is pretty nice, Seoul is a lot more futuristic than Tokyo. I was surprised to find out the terrain is super hilly, no wonder Koreans always got deezed calves, the office workers there are walking up steep hills with suitcases to get to work. Yea the food is pretty top of the line too.
The difference is there's no match for Japanese services/hospitality. Korea is a lot more casual/laid back than Japan, it can be a pro or con, but this is what makes Japan a very unique experience, the services there treat you like you come from royalty lmao. And Japanese take any job they do very seriously, you won't ever walk into a place where they are half assing, everyone is dedicated to their role to the max. That culture is what really sets it apart from any other place.
I've considered travelling to Japan several times but the flights from Europe are so damn expensive even with stops. Especially since COVID. At least it seems much cheaper to eat out there
If you're coming from the West, it is cheap once you're there, getting there is the expensive part. If you can ever afford it, I recommend going, it's worth it. I would tell you if it's overhyped, it's not.
