Manga Discussion Fairy Tail

Iirc Lucy was place 1.Dont know the rest anymore
I found a picture

Gajeel is on the 10th place so he will maybe get an onscreen battle.

But Suzaku is on the 14th place and Mashima doesn't care about him or about the other members of Diablos.

So I don't know what battles Mashima will show us.

I hope that all 3 of them (Gajeel, Mira and Elfman) will at least got one chapter battle. It would be really sad if they only get offscreen battle....

Lmao at Simp Tail, top-3 are female.
I really hoped for not-Natsu focus, but...

I think it's time to re-read Rave Master, as I still believe that it is Mashima's top work, it all went downhill afterwards.

Well I am not a fan of the whole team currently...I want to see the side characters again

But tbh if he shows us more of Natsu, his past, his connections with Ignia etc it could be good. What I really missed in the original manga was the connections, flashbacks etc with Zeref and him. If he this time gives the brothers more deph I will be fine with it.

Rave :steef:
I read it again few months ago. One of my favorite mangas overall and much better than the 100YQ. :goyea:

Story wise it's Mashimas best work.

But imo all of his works have their good and bad parts just like with all other mangas. Nothing is perfect, all mangas have their mistakes.

Rave has good story and some good battles and twists but not enough characters and abilities (compared to FT)

FT even with his mistakes, had a lot of characters with good designs, personalities, and abiltities. Many of them had good developments, power ups and he used a lot of characters and gave them fights or other roles. The balance between main cast and side cast was also good. Also the female characters are potrayed in a good way, sure they have fan service moments etc, but at least they also get many battles, developments, power ups and other major roles.

Imo many other shonen mangas are really bad in that, they only focus on the main character and many female characters are potrayed in a really bad way.

Thats why Rave and FT are my favorite mangas from Mashimas mangas and two of my favorite mangas overall, Rave because of the good story, battles and twists with good adventure setting. FT because of so many characters plus FT had also some good battles and twists.

I miss the old times with Rave and FT (until Tartaros) where everything was better :josad:

I still hope for a Rave anime remake :amazing::josad:

Oh yes, an anime remake would be great! I like Rave for the plot and the characters, and I also miss the uniqueness of character designs tbh. I wasn't too happy with new "Erza & Jellal" in EZ, like I get it you like the design for that character, but please don't recycle it to the end of time.
I also liked early FT more, albeit the ending was somewhat unfulfilling to me. So I had really high hopes for FT100Q, but at this point I cannot get really excited even for good chapters like the last one. I want more focus on other characters, and less silliness sometimes (Juvia's last fight... Mermaid form? Why :( at least she got a fight tho)

I agree they had grat designs and the plot was great too I really wish we would get a remake. :catcry:

What are your favorite characters from Rave? And what was your favorite arc and favorite battle?

Yep, Erza and Jellal in EZ was really unnecessary. I like the designs in Dead Rock more than the ones from EZ.

The ending was rushed, I really hate it. The downfall of the enemies was terrible.....:josad:

The 100YQ had at least a good start too, but the focus on the main team sucks. I also wish that we would see more the other characters.

It was good that Juvia get a new battle but I hate it that Mashima always potrayed her in the same way "Gray-Sama, Gray-Sama, Gray-Sama".....it's so annoying.....Meredy one of her best friends was almost killed, instead to be angry she only thought about Gray it was more comedy than a real serious battle.....

I hope that Mirajane, Elfman and Gajeel will get better fights.

Faris said that she need to do something against Ignias plans so maybe she will make her demons stronger or summon more demons so that Mirajane, Elfman and Gajeel will have better fights?

Maybe we will even see the other FT members like Gildarts? Laxus etc?

Overall I think the main reason why the 100YQ is not so "good" and has bad pacing is because it's bi-weekly. Without this shit I am sure we would have got better and longer fights and more side characters to see.

Even in the rushed Alvarez arc, we got longer battles, each S12 member had if I remember correctly a battle that was at least 3-4 chapters long.

Btw: did someone notice that after Faris saw Natsu etc, that she said "those. who slaughtered my master"? Who is her master? Acnologia? Was she his pupil?

Yep, bi-weekly releases surely hurt FT100Q a lot. But also... Too much focus on either totally new or same 5 main characters. It's called FT, so let the guild shine.... Eh.

As for Rave, ofc I liked Sieghart, and the main duo, Haru and Elie were great, both together and each on their own. I also loved the dragon duo Let and Julia, Julia is better than Erza imo (remember her "shameless" battle scene when the opponent tried to get her half naked to embarrass her and she was like "so what, still gonna kick your ass"?)
Musica and Reina had such a tragic and interesting storyline. Tbh, it's a series where I don't really have a character I hate!

As for the plot and battles, my memory is a bit hazy, I really need to re-read it as I binged it very fast, and then I've read countless mangas since then. I remember the joy of reading it, I remember certain moments (like that panel with Sieg broke me when I read it) but it's difficult for me to pick a fav arc and battle rn.

EZ started on in an interesting way, but then was a big disappointment. Dead Rock is mildly interesting to me, and I am really glad to see so many new character designs! And characters themselves are also interesting.

Juvia becoming such one-dimensional "Gray-sama" everything character is the biggest Mashima's crime imo. I quite liked her, and she seemed to be set out a happier version of Reina, but while Reina managed to hold her character integrity till the end, Juvia just got relegated to a comic relief with no other outstanding character traits other than her unhealthy fixation on Gray. And I like Gray, and their development when it was serious was actually quite well executed, but taking away everything else from Juvia, including her relationship with Gajeel, her determination to become S-class mage, her opening up to new friendships as she got accepted into FT, her initially rocky relationship with Laxus and his own monster trio... Also of that was stripped off and we're left with wasted potential.
That's why I actually prefer fewer characters in manga, as everyone gets more focus then, and there's less flanderizarion as we currently observe in OP.

Yep, I still hope/wish that we will see the others too. I really liked it that they were in the Aldoron arc and that some of them fought in a team battle against one of Aldoron guards.

I see and I agree they are really interesting I also like them and Shuda too he had one of the best developments imo.
There are some characters I dislike/hate, like Ogre or Hardner, they were good villains but overall not really good like Gale, Lucia or Doryu.

Sieg scene was one of the best ones ever :steef::josad:

Rave didn't have many battles but most of them were written really good like the battle against Doryu (one of my fav 5 battles from Rave)

Yep, EZ was good until Ziggys flashback imo. But I think Mashima was forced to end it, thats why the last arc was so terrible (with some few good twists). I think EZ was cancelled, Mashima said after he started with EZ that space mangas are not so popular in Japan, he still wanted to try it and in the west countries Mashima is hated a lot (imo because of nonsense reasons) but I think thats the reasons why EZ had a terrible ending.

Dead Rock story is ok/Iinteresting but I also like the character designs and personalities more.

Oh yes Juvia is really anoying, she was once one of my favorite characters, I liked the scene between her and Gajeel and between her and Lucy/Cana/Lisanna. I wish she would have more scenes with other characters and not only with Gray....

Imo it depends on the manga if fewer characters are better or not.
Bleach has fewer characters than FT and OP and in Bleach most of them were potrayed good.

Naruto has also fewer characters than FT and OP but the focus was still terrible, many characters were potrayed in a bad way or never got good screentime.

OP has a lot of characters and many characters are suffering from that, because Oda can't handle it in a good way.

FT has also many characters but imo Mashima handled them in a good way (in the original manga), many characters got screentime, major roles, (major) battles, developments, power ups even the enemies got a lot of screentime, battles and some of them got devleopments and depths.

EZ another manga from Mashima with fewer characters too and many side characters got a terrible treatment too, for example, Sylph one of the main cast members barely had moments and had only 2-3 battles in the whole manga and I believe in the last two arcs or 3 arcs, she didn't get any battle.

So imo few or many characters is not the problem it depends if the author uses them or not.

Fairy Tail is an okay series, if I had to rate it I would give it a 6.5/10.

the show gets way too much hate for "power of friendship" even though its not a big deal despite it being the center of their power scaling.

the unnecessary fanservice is also a big issue with me too, because there would be times where I would just get embarrassed because its always a close up of lucy or some other female character as if thats the only reason they're in the show.

comparing fairy tail to eden zero or even rave master is like compaing naruto to dragon ball super.
