These commercial DNA tests are consumer products for entertainment purposes. The older ones in particular used vague groupings of regions and the likelyhood to find certain DNA markers in countries' modern populations. Today the categories they use are narrowed down but it's still a consumer product* that is not treated like DNA would be handled in a scientific context.




*actually a scam to harvest your DNA and make you pay for it.

i have some 10ish% north african/arabian peninsula heritage even. 4% finnish isnt enugh to compensate

I dont know what are the right scientific approachs to determine the heritage. But what I can say is that most of my ancestry comes from the alpine region (trentino, lombardia, veneto, austria, france)
I also know I have portuguese ancestry and I suspect ameridian (but i'm not sure)

I'd be less shocked if this came from a country that is not the US, Philippines' ex president Duterte spoke like this years ago and carried it out via death squads commiting murder in broad daylight. But this is the currently most influential country in the world and the impact this has is unforseeable.
