Chapter Discussion FINAL VEREDICT on God Valley Incident

Btw if I have to give one ⭐ to something from One Piece, I'd give it to people constantly surviving impossible injuries, Pell tanking a giga bomb is crazy...
This would be a legitimate criticism. Constant surviving can impact the conflict deployment in OP. Personally I don't dislike that as I'm more attached to the characters than to see them dying (for ex, I don't think I could tank one of the strawhats dying, like IRL), but I can understand why it can be a problem for people. But at this point, this is to be expected, it's not something new.

Pretentious for liking something and explaining that being edgy about it is not the smart move everybody thinks? Are you trying somehow to reverse the polarity here?

Honestly 2/10 due to it not meeting my expectations at all.

Pirate being pirate. No deep loyalty. Trashing themselves, fighting together & killing eachothers without remorse or consequences.. This is the most pirate of the Caribbean "arc" that we got until now. And instead of liking that, you guy are using this characteristic to trash on the moment. And when there is actual connection and emotion (Rocks, Roger, Garp), it becomes invisible and still trashed.

:kaidowhat:

GV problems :

- Shakky plot. Stupid reason for the GV gathering. Should have been a treasure / huge DF or something special and not to rescue Shakky. A plot that was thankfully glossed over quick in the event. The Ray / Shakky thing wasn’t great at all either.

- The retcon about BM and Kaido life debt. BM looks stupid af with her life debt while Kaido just owned her lmao.

- The retcon of Kaido wanting to attack / fight Roger. No where in sight.

- the whole « fight » and clash was a mess. No real and clean fight panels, no hype etc. A bit of a shame considering the hype of the event. MF was quick yet we had some huge hype panel of monster fighting. It isn’t that difficult. Clash piece is really lame. Lot of guys should have had focus or at least one or two feats.

- the Imu fight was lame. Barely readable and the EPIXC double spread where everyone attacked was lame. There is also the problem of Garp attacking Saturn just like that no consequences lol.

- the DR reaction of the Yonko was straight up ridiculous. Everyone turned their brain off. Obviously Odas fault, but man it’s embarrassing this level of writing

- the last fight was a bit too quick and didn’t show enough but I guess for a flashback it was expected

the GV good things :

- Dragon is the biggest winner of GV. Loved his character arc and made me want again to see more of him

- Garp was an absolute mad lad and a unit. The guy went with a bunch of marine bozos against the strongest pirate crews ever and everyone was shitting their boots. Threat level over 9000 confirmed.

- Rocks was still a good character even in the GV mess. The man was a bit more of a good guy than I expected and what was sold beforehand but why not. But even like that he was still dope and bossy. Erasing the HK and Garling as a side quest, butchering his Davy clan etc.

- Garling. Yeah he was disappointing as fuck in the power/feat department. But as a villain and an evil piece of shit the guy is up there. Killed Shanks/Shamrock mom just like that, landing the last blow on Rocks etc etc. The guy is a fiend and I can’t wait for his elder version to deliver.

- BM / Kaido dynamic was kinda fun. And Kaido himself was fun. Too bad their characters were such a mess in their respective arcs because BM and Kaido had real potential.

- DR Xebec was a monster and the strongest character we have seen for now. Ragdolled Garp/Roger.

- Polo Gram kicking the shit if Silver lame axe

- Ganzui being a great meme with his dragon flame snot attack

But the GV part specifically wasn’t that great and lacking. Not a whole mess and garbage but not up there. Barely a 9-10/20 and I’m generous.

Oda missed the premise and the execution too much for GV to be great.
Yeah this. I couldn't have said it better myself.

No one's being edgy, we're just saying Oda is a bad writer nowadays. It's painfully obvious that he's unoriginal with most of his plots, he despises women, and he can't write villains well in any capacity.
Btw, nice that you ignored Whitebeard having a friendly interaction with Xebec there and choosing to fight the third or second most powerful character in the verse alongside him.

Honestly 2/10 due to it not meeting my expectations at all. Barely any fights among legends. The combined attack against imu looked mid.

Garp and roger vs xebec was okayish and not bad but nothing great either.

Roger looked nothing special nor did he separated himself from others like garp or WB.

I like the way oda wrote waido though and thats all. This was his chance to show case prime ray , gaban , shiki , garling going all out but he ddin't even come close to it.
lol kaido did nothing of significance other than beg BM for a DF...

we can say every rescue arc was stupid then, EL, AP, CRA & ID were all rescue arcs, aside from that Xebec could've cared less and only went to GV to rescue his family. Shakky is what gathered everyone else and the treasures were highlighted til this day Captain Johns treasure is legendary and Buggys been chasing it since he was a kid.

Those arcs were deeper than nonsense like "Shakky's so beautiful and perfect and wonderful that her kidnapping made the economy across the world stagnate for a few weeks!!" and putting Shakky on a pedestal as a literal prize to be won lmao

@GeneralP123 @Reborn @Jailer @Monster Zoro's Tesla Supplier

I honestly thought Davy Jones would show up as a spirit during Xebec's death where only Xebec can see him.

There, Jones uses Vision of All Things to look 40 years in the future and reassure Xebec that his son and someone else will co destroy the government.

And then, Jones flies away with baby Teach in his arms to a safer place and then vanishes away after sealing some of his powers in Teach.

:finally:

The way Oda handled Rocks crew after Xebec got DR soured the flashback for me.
I can give Kaido and BM a pass for leaving without trying to understand what was going on since they always seemed me as the type to only be loyal to themselves but Whitebeards is unforgivable after Oda drew this scene a few chapters go where he had no reason to help Xebec aside from loyalty.

PIS has always been part of this series, but Oda literally made WB dumber than some fodder giants. There's a limit to how much I can shut my brain down to excuse bad writing

If he was gonna do this it would have been better for them to not attack Imu/Saturn at all, not be present there

It makes zero sense for them to part ways abruptly like that

I don't know how far your OP experience goes but for me it's 25 years of my life more or less. I'm just a bit more than 10 years older. This means that I grew with One Piece, I learned from OP, I was educated partially by One Piece and the characters. This means that the parasocial bond that I have with the characters is massive. A death of one of the main cast would have more effect on me that it should.

No one's being edgy, we're just saying Oda is a bad writer nowadays.
And I'm saying the opposite on top of showing you why you are thinking that way and why, for the most part, it's stands on wind.

:Luffy_Roll:

Yeah, you read with your hand, I don't know what to tell you.

Being friendly doesn't equate to actual connections. Again: they are pirates.

I know, the way he worded that implies some sinister shit.
Nah, not to this point. But I would have a hard time for sure.

I don't think so. Luffy death, on the other hand, is pretty much a certainty, and I'm fine with that, I've been preparing myself for it since 2009. You shouldn't be surprised by what I say, It's more than logical to be attached to this story that much with the amount of love I have for it. You wouldn't say the same to believers, would you? And yet, they have the same Parasocial bond with God. (well... in their case..)

This flashback tried to forcefeed us so hard that garp chuujo was meant to be a pirate and his flimsy excuse to stay in the marines. But he only ended up a bigger oppressor hypocrite and lousy father who almost let his son die in god valley, pampered by fake news of being a hero

Masterpiece class goda writing :Garp_Laugh:
