Who is the better candidate between Loki and Yamato?
Both have been argued to be stronger than Zoro and/or Sanji which messes with the Monster Trio. I'd say Loki is stronger than Yamato from the Elbaph hype around Loki and his bounty. Yamato may be stronger than King, Queen, and Jack but it was not clearly stated nor did any of them fear Yamato. It could be argued King and Queen are more capable than Yamato so since Yamato has a better chance of not breaking the Monster Trio her chances are higher than Loki's in that regard currently.
Yamato missed a key moment in confronting Kanjuro as Oden. Yamato could have evolved from her Oden shtick to her own person. She left to confront Kaido but would have met Kaido sooner if she would have stayed with Momonosuke. Oda purposely removed Yamato to delay her confrontation with her father. Then when opportunity to leave Wano with the Strawhats was given, she decided to stay in Wano to travel and experience Wano first before potentially leaving. Momo and Kin'emon also were invited which downplays any singular connection for Yamato.
Loki without a shape-shifting Devil Fruit cannot fit on the Thousand Sunny. The Strawhats are not getting another ship as the sailing the Thousand Sunny around the world is Franky's dream. However, Loki does have a decent chance of such a fruit because of the Norse lore about Loki though One Piece Loki also has a mix of Norse Thor wielding a hammer that can strike lightning bolts. Loki is somewhat sharing the spotlight with his brother Hajrudin who already is a Strawhat Grand Fleet captain.
Luffy has been giving great focus and attention to bonding with Loki where it was the opposite with Yamato trying to bond with Luffy. Loki was foreshadowed back on Whole Cake Island. Yamato came out of nowhere in Wano's Third Act.
I would give the edge to Loki as long as he has a shape-shifting Devil Fruit and both Zoro and Sanji prove to be better fighters which is possible by both Strawhats beating Domi Reversal Brogy and Dorry.
