Speculations Crocodile, the atonement of Satchels family

#1
There are a lot of mysterious blank spots in Crocodile's past.
- What does Ivankov know about Crocodile? (and no, it's not a crocomom theory)
- Why was Crocodile on the Level 6 of Impel Down as if his existence was inconvenient in some way?
- What's with the golden hook, and why was it not taken away in Impel Down?
- Why did Crocodile target specifically Whitebeard?
- Why did Doflamingo offer an alliance to Crocodile of all people: the guy without Haki who lost to an upstart and got imprisoned?
- Why did Crocodile refuse his offer without a second thought?

First of all, I think that the statement "guy without Haki" contains two false statements at once. And the key to understanding both is Trafalgar Law. A strong burst of Haki apparently can break the Devil Fruit effect you are under. So, what if Crocodile's unwillingness of potentially losing said effect was stronger than his desire to defeat Luffy? What if even the slightest risk of having the Horu Horu no Mi power released off him is infinitely more undesirable than losing years of progress in his plan? In other words, if it is true, Crocodile didn't use Haki not because he couldn't, but because he was afraid of possible consequences.
Now, what could be so bad about Crocodile returning to initial appearance? Perhaps homeone undesirable could notice him (or rather, her). Someone with a bitter grudge against her and her entire family. Someone like Figarland Garling.
Just think about it. Garling lost his son due to Maffey's blunder. What could he have demanded in return? What if Maffey happened to have an eight year old daughter at the moment? Garling could absolutely demand said daughter of Satchels family to be branded with a Shallow Sea Mark and forced to be his personal squire where he would have all the opportunities to make her life hell. The girl would escape over and over again, but caught repeatedly, beaten and scarred, the latest one going all the way across her face. Then she would find a certain someone who could change her into a different person. She would become a man, choose a deliberately masculine prefix "Sir" and cut off the branded arm. True to his World Noble heritage, Sir Crocodile wouldn't be able to resist the shiny temptation of a massive golden hook as a prosthetic. And then he went to have revenge against the origin of his misfortune - Whitebeard, who didn't even notice how he ruined his mother's life and his own.
After Crocodile's defeat, the truth of his origin (or at least his World Noble status) became known, and he was temporarily put into custody on Level 6 until someone from up above had the leisure to check on him and verify his identity. Naturally, this kind of rumour would have reached Doflamingo's ears, and he would feel a sense of camaraderie towards a fellow fallen Celestial Dragon, perhaps projecting his own past onto Crocodile and entertaining the thought of having revenge against Mary Geoise together. And naturally, Crocodile who was traumatised since early childhood and desired nothing more than to go under the radar of Garling, wanted no part of that.
And here we have it: Crocodile, daughter of Maffey, victim of Garling, runaway Blade of God.

Well, most of these things aren't really mysteries...

Yeah, Crocomom is more of a joke theory, but Croc could very well be a female and Iva changed his (her) gender in the past. I can't think of something more obvious.
- Why was Crocodile on the Level 6 of Impel Down as if his existence was inconvenient in some way?
He was a notorious pirate and former Shichibukai. Croc almost seized one of the most prominent countries in the world. Jinbe was on level 6 too, so it isn't hard to undestand.
- What's with the golden hook, and why was it not taken away in Impel Down?
This one is really a mystery, lol. Maybe it's surgically attached to him? And since he was chained up in kairoseki, it didn't matter anyway.
- Why did Crocodile target specifically Whitebeard?
It was probably just bad luck on his part of stumbling upon WB in the New World. In any case, you're bound to face the Yonko in a way or another. Moria had about the same fate, but against Kaido... yet, since his "Kozuki" reveal, he might've had some business in Wano.
- Why did Doflamingo offer an alliance to Crocodile of all people: the guy without Haki who lost to an upstart and got imprisoned?
Croc was still a former Shichibukai and a very resourceful pirate. Anyway, by Marineford the powerscaling of the Alabasta Arc was probably retconned already, since Croc could hold his own against Akainu, Mihawk, Jozu and even Doffy himself (and he couldn't possibly have trained while chained up in ID)... I think that Oda even said once that Croc was introduced too early (maybe he still had plans to end One Piece earlier back in Alabasta).
- Why did Crocodile refuse his offer without a second thought?
Pride. Plus, he probably had other plans. Most warlords have shown some degree of arrogance and doubtfully would submit to any of their peers. When Kuma went to Thriller Bark to help Moria against Luffy, he immediately refused the offer and was infuriated that the WG was doubting him. Later in Hachinosu, Moria refused to submit to Blackbeard too. Both Mihawk and Croc spanked Buggy after his subordinates made the advertising poster for Cross Guild with Buggy as the leader. And so on.

Good point, but I wouldn't trust it 100%. Oda recently retconned at least one past: Bonney. She apparently was supposed to have a poor upbringing (either as an orphan or as a slave probably), with tattered clothes and bruises as drawn in SBS Vol. 64, but we saw in Kuma's flashback that, besides the Sapphire Scale, Bonney had no problem growing up with Kuma.
