We know that Brook and Gunko know each other and will soon have their flashbacks.

She participated in the genocide tournament in God Valley and was even Garling's rival in the massacre.
She kidnaps giant children and blackmails Elbaf

We learn from the second level of the Covenant that one cannot refuse Imu's orders and will be forced to do them by Imu.

Does someone like Gunko deserve redemption? Just because she and Brook have a connection?

If she was completely brainwashed during all this, then yes she does. We‘re not blaming DR Xebec for anything he did either, or the DR giants. And it seems like Imu took complete control of her.

A victim isn't necessarily innocent.
If you’re forced to commit those atrocities because somebody else has control of you, you are in fact innocent as you neither wanted it nor did you yourself do any of that. It‘s like Doffy and King Riku. Just worse because her mind was also taken over.

I hope that when we see Gunko’s flashback, she won’t turn out to be a perfectly nice girl who just got manipulated,
that would be way too predictable.
It’d be much better if she were half good, half bad, and if she knowingly chose to join the Holy Knights, fully aware of what the government was doing.
Then later on, she gets manipulated by Imu and forced to obey orders, but with a point in time where she genuinely agreed with what she was doing.
Otherwise, I honestly hope she either dies or ages massively once she comes back to her senses.
It wouldn’t make any sense for her to survive if Imu takes her powers away, especially since she’s supposed to be extremely old.

So, Gunko was like a handmaiden or something to Imu 56 years ago when Xebec confronted them. Then, 38 years ago, at God Valley, she had recently became a Devoted Blade. But at the Reverie and God Valley, she looks exactly the same now. Presuming she was given her Covenant as young as 16 or so, she would have to be at least 72.

But why would Imu give an Abyss Covenant, or at least a special, unique Depths, to some girl from a random island in the West Blue?
