One Piece trading cards are getting almost as valauble as Pokemon cards. Still I didn't know the new OP TCG even existed a few months ago. How can such a success go past me for so long, even though I consume OP content daily? Youtube recommended me a livestream by someone opening those packs. I also saw bunch of videos, where supposed One Piece fans and OP TCG collectors mispronounced the characters names. My impression is that most "collectors" don't care about the manga and are there to make a quick buck. Like those investing in some shitcoin because they regret missing Bitcoin, these people want to make up for not buying Pokemon cards before the hype by going into the OP TCG.

Is anyone here collecting those cards???

I like vintage Yugioh Cards, but only because I wanted to have certain cards (Exodia most of all) very badly when I was in Elementary School. As an adult it can feel good to buy the cards you couldn't have as a child. Must be similar for many with Pokemon cards. But no one had this with One Piece cards because they didn't exist, or rather because the original OP TCG flopped miserably. I had a few cards from the original One Piece TCG, that were attached to some childrens cartoon magazine. (I also had a Gaara Naruto card!).

In one video, an "investor" pointed out how sturdy the OP cards are, and that a higher percentage grade PSA10, compared to other TCGs. He didn't understand that this is bad for value. Children played with Pokemon and Yugioh cards, so not many survived in mint conditon into today. Almost all rare OP cards printed will never see play and thus survive in mint condition. Soft hands will carefully insert them into a stylish perfectly fitting sleeve directly after pulling them out of a pack. But later, all those people will will try sell at the same time. Like obese men trying to squeeze themselves through a small door all at once. Will be funny to look at. Hopefully some "investors" make cringe videos, where they curse Bandai, or other people undercutting them. Losing your savings in the stock market or even in crypto is alot more dignified than losing them by betting on a super hyper mega rare Nami/Boa goon card. Maybe after the crash i buy some OP cards.

I collect OP TCG and it's super popular in my area

In terms of how often it's actually played it's up there with the biggest card games now

Sadly due to the growing popularity there are quite a few scalpers getting into it

No, but I'm not too into card games, in general. Outside of reading and/or watching anime/manga about other people playing them ala Yu-Gi-Oh or Cardfight Vanguard.

Plus, early on, some of the art was just screenshots. They've really improved in that area, as far as I understand it. But, not enough to actually hunt down a pack.

i don't like the new tcg. though i have ordered a bunch of cards from the old ccg on ebay a couple days ago. the english run was very brief, and i believe limited to australia. quite hard to get you rhands on. the game kept on for longer in germany and italy. i looked out for buggy, but then i stumpled upon a nami holo collection. this card 5 times, among others.

(this is not my picture, taken from internet)
of course not on the goon level of the new tcg
here are some other designs:

the best design might be this:

i wonder if some collectors of the new tcg will get interested in the old cc. of course many of the most characters most popular now weren't introduced yet, so they don't have cards, but nami and buggy are always popualar.

I play the new TCG and have a decent sized collection. Nothing too expensive, my priciest card is only worth about 70 bucks and my main TCG focus is Pokemon

Anyone who really wants to make money on TCG products should focus on buying sealed product and then sitting on it. If you're ripping packs hoping to make a profit, you're just buying lottery tickets with worse odds. Sealed is smarter. But don't take this advice because it also makes you an asshole. Scalpers are ruining the market for players

If the cards were in this style faithful to the manga with the current characters, islands, swords, etc I think I’d buy them
They’re really cool

The One Piece cards aren’t drawn in the same style as the manga, it feels weird, it gives the impression you’re buying counterfeits
And the cards themselves can vary wildly in style, too. It comes off way inconsistent
That's the beauty of it, each artist draws their assigned character in their own style, none of them trying to imitate Oda's style. Just like Pokémon cards.

Sadly I do not have enough money for that.
I cannot even buy the original manga in my country
there is still time to enter the first one piece card game! italian booster boxes are still affordable. i bought some boxes (i don't speak italian) for 45 euros per piece. low prices considering they are 20 years old. the designs are mostly true to the japanese original.
