Nah, this was never straight up said. Hiruzen just stopped the third coffin because he realized what was happening by that point. Let´s not act like there was a specific statement there, and even the Anbu talk about how those two were the ultimate shinobi. The portrayal at that point wasn´f favoring anyone among the Hokage except Hiruzen, who was viewed as the strongest.

No lol. Kisame being one of the seven swordsman is as important to his hype as Itachi is being Uchiha. It´s just what people would know about them as, but they´re clearly the strongest of their groups which is why the ended up being recruited by the Akatsuki. Kisame was definitely not portrayed as someone on the same level as Zabuza, the first villain in the manga.

But yeah, there´s power inflation regarding DC.

I mean you would agree that Minato was clearly portrayed above the Sannin in Part 1, right? It was never stated anywhere in Part 1 that Edo Hashirama and Tobirama were only at a fraction of their power. Kishimoto simply believed at the time that Old Hiruzen was >= them, the same Old Hiruzen who was at best relative to the Sannin.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to acknowledge Part 1 Kisame with his “Tailless Tailed Beast” moniker than by his 7 Ninja Swordsman title?

@Sentinel When it comes to above light speed One Piece, aren’t there way inconsistencies in the story if we assume the characters are casually FTL than vice versa? There’s probably like at least 50 scenes every arc where you’d have to question why the characters are only moving at a tiny fraction of their full speed when they have no reason not to be going full speed. Meanwhile, if we assume the characters really are just sonic to hypersonic, then the only “inconsistencies” are Kuma’s “light speed” air cannons and the few instances of characters dodging lasers, but those can be expained away by Kuma speaking figuratively and by assuming that those lasers aren’t moving at true light speed (they’re already disobeying several laws of physics anyways). Doesn’t it make more sense to go with the option that creates way less head scratchers?

Shanks still has 0 DC feats. Cope.
It´s all about Shamrock these days, so I don´t think it matters anyway.

There´s matchup, Hiruzen could seal them because they were mindless zombies. In a regular 1v2, he couldn´t win without the death seal.

Also, old Hiruzen isn´t capped below Tsunade and Jiraiya lol. He was no longer entirely sure about him being able to stop Orochimaru, but those two couldn´t stop him *either*.

Things about Kisame can be added overtime, like a moniker. But there´s no chance Kisame wasn´t introduced with the goal of being an incredibly powerful shinobi fit to be Itachi´s partner(at the time, Sasukes eos goal). He was essentially playing with the Jonin. By this logic, we might as well say Kizaru vs Rayleigh was retconned lol, since Rayleigh didn´t show advanced haki nor create explosions like Garp, nor did Kizaru create clones or some of the other stuff we´ve seen from him. I never said both series didn´t change their scale overtime, just that the actual scaling in relation to that didn´t inherently change.
(Though if you believe both pre TS´s have been retconned, I would still disagree, but it would be consistent I guess).

He solo’d Loki, who has Thrudheim.

DC is the most inconsistent stat in OP anyways. Logically, Onigashima should be rubble from all the top, high, and mid tiers fighting on it, but that didn’t happen because Oda doesn’t want to have to constantly change the environment and devote extra time to drawing mass destruction.
DC =\= AOE. Kuzan doesn't have DC feats from his DF.
