Powers & Abilities If Oda had kept it as the Gum-Gum Fruit. what would its "Awakening" and Gear 5 be?

Yep. It would be the same as Doflamingo or Katakuri's awakenings.

Currently, as a Mythical Zoan user, Luffy has special properties to his awakening. He can punch someone and turn that part of their body into rubber. No other awakened fruit user has done that, but as a Paramecia user he would be unable to do it. What he would gain, though, is the ability to control what the surroundings do.

As it is, Luffy can change the physics of a person he touches and the ground he's on, but he can't change their shape and control them with his will. For example, he can't touch a building, turn it into rubber, and then make the rubber attack people like an extension of his body. Paramecia users seem to be able to do that, but only some of them. Law and Kidd's awakened abilities allow them to apply their ability to something other than their own body, but they aren't applying it as if it were a material thing. Their abilities are immaterial, so what they do is change the immaterial properties in a localized area; K-room and R-room apply the operating room immaterial properties to a knife and to a space and Assign applies immaterial properties to two separate targets in the form of magnetic polarities.

Its powers aren't the problem - it being a retconned Mythical Zoan is.
The only facet of its "powers" I'd change is Luffy laughing like a loon nearly all the time (especially the hand-on-face pose). Have him be serious when the situation clearly calls for it.
And even the retcon could work, if Oda bothered to foreshadow it longer than 31 chapters prior to its introduction.

Not that all different. Like the move against Sommers would still be the same. Just none of the laughing and things like Luffy creating shit from thin air like a bat or goggles.

Thats largely what I already expected from Gear 5 way before it existed and as Luffy's awakening

Luffy making stuff out of the smoke clouds is somewhat acceptable when you consider that Imu does similar stuff. The only difference is Luffy uses the white smoke to make helpful objects, but Imu weaponized the black smoke to make tendrils.

Then there's the Sun Wukong angle where he was able to make objects out of his hair including a palace. Goku was cool, but he never did that. That's because all Goku did was punch, kick, and scream, though, and once in a while he threw a beam.

The most clever things they did in the Dragon Ball series include the energy constructs and the kamikaze ghost attack. Everything else was just flashy martial arts lol

- Removing or greatly decreasing the limiter of G3/G4
- Permanent gigantification
- Permanent G4 or at least partial usage on his limbs without Haki set as pre-requirement
- Turning his enviroment into rubber and whatever structures Oda would come up with
- Turning parts of his body into weapons

At least that's what I believe should be in the realm of possibilities based on what we know about Awakening and Luffy's abilities.

If it stayed the Gum-Gum fruit instead of the Nika-Nika fruit, what would Gear 5 be like? and what would its "Awakening" be like?
In my ideal view about Luffy, he should break the limit of what Gomu2 can do in its Awakening, essentially Luffy with his creativity should reform / transform the fruit's essence and power potential itself using his creativity (infusing CoC into the fruit? Infusing VoAT into the fruit? Some unique method that can't be replicated)

Thus:

- compress spacetime during impact: infinite attack speed, thus infinite force / momentum / kinetic energy
- compress spacetime between him and his enemy: free teleportation
- stretch spacetime between him and his enemy: he get centuries to dodge an attack

He can't manipulate enemies' spacetime, it's too complicated, but he is super talented in manipulating his own body, thus unlocking this ability. Since Luffy's a physical fighter, i limit his spacetime powers to amplify his physical combat (becoming the flash + gambit + cannonball)
