When it comes to strength and commanding presence he's pretty good

But personality, reasoning and mindset
Pretty meh

Honestly I am not sure what to think about Kaido. Unlike most Villains preceding him , Kaido's main big appeal was his power and now after oda introduced woki , Kaido feels like a joke.

I think 6/10 due to his presence.

I mean, he was successful enough to usurp Wano for 20 years, turn it into factory of smiles, he had influence over other strong pirate crews, kept his Yonko title before Luffy dethroned him, which is by OP standards quite good. Power-wise, he was formidable enough to be a post-TS villain, although I hated the final moments of his fight with Luffy, mostly because of Nika tunes.

But, his personality fell flat to me, his motivations were not really explored properly, he was looking for a JB for what? Even BM, as laughable she was handled, had a better characterization overall, she had a goal of getting power and uniting all races under her rule, tbh if she had a better mentor by her side I could totally see BM being in a good side rather than bad.

So looking back, Kaido didn't live up to his hype, but objectively he was a force to be reckoned with, and Wano finally getting free from his rule is a big deal in OP verse.

For villains the cunning type is sometimes preferred more instead of stronger individual I think. And Wano as an arc was too cluttered so Kaido does suffer from it a little bit. A bigger flashback would have been better but Oda probably didnt want to show too much as the Rocks part was to be revealed in Loki flashback.
He is a morally grey sort of character not an outright evil one like Doffy was shown in flashback. Katakuri was just an antagonist. an anti hero or just someone to be defeated. The evil part got attached to Orochi in Wano where the SMILE thing felt more associated to Orochi, Caesar and Doffy than to Kaido.
Kaidos story is of betrayal, always an outsider (but this aspect was not explored enough). He was a failed hero too for not being the promised JB. At the current point in his story he feels someone who doesnt really have a real goal, a real dream, even the quest for world domination does not feel like BBs quest or Rocks quest for it. Its more like he is bored and wants to do something instead of being actually driven to it.

At best I can put him at a 7/10, but when I really think about it, Oda fumbled him outside of powerscaling.

A 6.

His hybrid sucked. Design wise and strength wise.

the only good feature of his hybrid was his drunken form.

Obviously his horrendous connection to a shitty arc, to the shitty location of Wano Kuni, Loden and him being the last mile stone before „alleged god level territory“, kinda took a toll on him.

GV helped a bit personality wise, but during Wano he dropped some coded terms without any payoffs.

Didn‘t help that he is written by a notorious horrible mangaka, who is incapable of having a good antagonist who is also very strong.

Non existing background.

His last attack was definitely capable of holding against Bajrang Gun, but it is based on a form that was insanely unimpressive.

Fact Oda‘s presketches of his hybrid form (design wise and how it work emitting CoC haki) was way better

At least the design of his dragon form is more impressive than we have with the Elbaph clown.

Also the only legendary pirate who has not simped for Shakky (bar Big Mom)

10/10 as an opposing combat threat

1/10 in terms of character writing. Makes Jirens backstory look like a ASOIAF spin off
