He's just not necessary because everything you mentioed, Geto, Gojo etc was perfectly fine without him in the original story. And Gege outright stated he never thought JJK would be a thing. Meaning when Geto and Gojo were created without him in mind.

The more apt comparison would be comparing Zoro to Mihawk. No matter how impactful Mihawk is made out to be in the future he was ultimately made to serve as Zoro's benchmark. Same with a guy like Roger
