Akainu and Dragon connection has always been forced to me. Referring to the World's Most Wanted Criminal when talking about his rookie son, is completely natural. Especially for Akainu.
WB was present in Marineford, yet Akainu was clearly concerned with killing Dragons Son

Regardless if you think its a personal connection or not, in the story oda connected him to dragon, otherwise he would not forced it that much

also post-ts they occupy the same role narratively, sitting and doing nothing

Hell in egghead they even failed to stop Kuma page for page lmao

WB was a walking dead man. Akainu was not interested one bit in a relic from the past who came to MF to die. This is why after shaving off half his head he dug an underground tunnel to get to the two people that mattered.

He was hellbent on two things. Kill Roger's seed, and kill Dragon's seed. He was focused on the future.

Ace was not a rookie pirate he was well established. Akainu referring to Luffy by his father is a reference to him being too weak for the Marineford war. It's a sign of disrespect, he was not even worthy of being called by his own name. You will not see Akainu refer to Luffy like this post timeskip. He's been calling him Strawhat.

But you just argued he was laser focused on Ace and Luffy only cause they are the future, whats Ace being a weakling that does even lose to pre-ts bb matter?
I dont know you can interpret it this way, for me its clear that oda conencting dragon narrativly to akainu, the strucutre i already mentioned it post-ts supports that aswell
