One reason should be that supreme king haki coating attacks can hit the real body, bypassing regeneration/immortality power.
The same thing that happens with basic armament haki that let hit the real body of rogia fruits.
Probably the Roger pirates never did that because they just dismantled the holy knights while being chased every time.

But the real question is Sommers heart now is visible thanks to Luffy and Loki supreme king haki, how much time does the "effect" last until the "real body" can be seen? How does it work? It's still pretty vague and probably I'm not even right. Probably Oda will not even explain it properly.

2) Sommers and Killingham will be sacrificed by Imu to power him up (and maybe let him stay on Elbaph longer) or just because he is disappointed for their performance.

I just can't see them getting killed without doing anything now.

Yes, and many thought that Imu didn't simply have a DF power but that he was the entity itself, a supernatural deity rather than someone who ate a DF. The distinction is crucial since it means that guy has the same weaknesses as every other DF user too.

As for your thread about Imu being Asmodeus; I don't think Imu is based on one specific deity, it's probably some mix. Yokai, Satan, sea devil (hence deep sea contract), Oda proabbly just mixed up some stuff, there isn't one clear reference. And I don't really think Imu has the "prime Devil Fruit". I would say you have other fruits competing with it in the hierarchy.

The most interesting one in that regard is probably the Yami Yami no Mi which can basically shut down everyone else.

Yeah but if its the second option we would not get an answer no? Like we already know if imu pulls the abyss out of you he can kill you, see Saturn
So the heart scene with sommers and severing killingham would be pointless
