Questions & Mysteries When did Oda started the food obsession with Luffy?

#1
I don't recall Luffy relying on food to defeat anyone in pre timeskip. At most when he defeats Blueno he said he was weaker before for being starving. Then again against Katakuri he complains about being starving but fights good anyone. I at least don't consider he beated Katakuri. And back at Kaido he eats to recover after being knocked out for the 2nd time in that fight. And again at Egghead. Why Oda is suddenly pushing food piece agenda to scale Luffy's capabilities to fight? So now every fight he lost is just because he didn't ate enough? Every time Luffy looks bad is because he is starving? Wtf!?

I mean, it only started with G5, and hes only done it twice so far, at least in the middle of a conflict.

G5 turns him into a shriveled up old man for whatever reason. I do hope the eventual point is to negate the weakness, or at least as long as Imu uses his powers.

The difference is Imu is immortal so we dont know if its also slowly killing Luffy either

Luffy’s always been nerfed if he’s hungry. Even in Enies Lobby Nami made a point to bring as much food as she could gather in order to get Luffy and the others to full strength

I wouldn’t even say this is Luffy specific but it definitely applies to him the most

That's my point. There was 0 mentioning about it before. Against Crocodile. Enel. I don't remember this being pointed out against Moriah or even in Impel Down although he ate a lot after Magellan defeated him.

Eh depends
You are right its a geniune shounenism thing that oda plays hard with luffy that always kinda existed but it doesnt apply overall to all characters imo
I never for example rememberin any Sanji or other characters fight they need to before, during or, at the end to get "full restore". We see them seldom eat in fact at all, not related to that only, beside some rare exceptions
It would be even a plothole as Sanji already demonstrated he can cook mid combat so he could go infinite

we saw it in Alabasta. he even trained himself to eat in his sleep after his fight with Rob Lucci. and in Impel Downs eating a months worth of food in a few minutes

It's stupid. He gets to conveniently recover and keep fighting while everyone else has to sit out. That's what happened on Egghead when he clashed with 4 of 5 Gorosei and Kizaru.

And it never seems to involve Sanji's cooking. Just random food from whatever island they are on.

In his defense. I think it is always meat/protein.

Cracker is the first fight I can remember where eating was playing a major role. And it never stopped from there.

You know what crazy?
Younger fans/tourist probally dont remember but when Luffy gassed out against Doffy he didnt even eat 1 breat crumb even having infinite opportunities to, so getting carried out by the citizens in the city, neither, if i remember correctly, asked for it
lmaaaaao

clowning aside after that kaido battle, where the peak of the battle was also about food, even kaidos question, i have the feeling oda is gonna tie some world hunger/food theme or some stuff like that towards the end, it seems like a flip in his head got switched or something

Oda said in a SBS when Luffy ran away from Katakuri by himself after G4 ran out that he could've done the same just fine against Doffy but when he does at Roof Piece he even gets eaten by Kaido when Zoro was carrying him

Every power up forces Luffy to use more energy for some reason.

It's just your usual shonen - protagonist - limiter I guess, so Luffy can not become to strong yet
Out of most shonen protagonists ive seen over the years. Luffy definitely suffers the worst due to the drawbacks thing that I've seen seen. The only one that comes close is Deku and One for All at the beginning of MHA.
