I know this breaks many speculations about Davy's greatness. But let me explain some details to you before you say that I'm wrong:

You see, Davy Back Fight was a pirate game created on the island that was called Pirates Paradise. Its purpose was to get a more powerful Pirate Crew. While Xebec wasn't the one who created it.

While Joy Boy was the first Pirate. This means that Davy couldn't live in the Joy Boy's era, because JB was the first pirate. This could lead to one and only possibility: Davy Jones inherited Joy Boy's will. Davy Jones was never a King, this is what Nerona Imu said, which means Davy couldn't be the ruler of an ancient kingdom, at least not the Davy Jones himself.

Davy Jones was the first person to declare war against Nerona Imu after JB's death, and he created the pirate game Davy Back Fight. Davy Jones wanted to marry a mermaid from Fishman Island because he learned about Poseidon, which is why Vanderdekken has the same dream.

It seems that Davy Jones was someone who was able to break Imu's plans, which is why Imu hates both JB and Davy Jones.

But what about the Will of D.? Lily was D. after all. Well, I believe Will of D. was something that appeared before Davy D. Jones.

I can make an assumption that it was Davy Jones who rang in the Lloyd Bell at Marinford 16 times.

We also know that 200 years ago someone made Emeth attack the Holy Land.

I believe that Davy Jones lived 600 or 400 years ago, which was the moment that the organization that was replaced by the Marines was destroyed.

Most important is 400 years ago date, because this date is related to Germa 66 and even to Noland. Which is why I assume it was Davy Jones Era.

And I am convinced that Imu is telling the truth. But I also know that there was a promise between Davy Jones and Imu that Imu did not keep.

Xebec’s statement cannot be based on nothing, and in short I see it like this:
1. Davy D. Jones was part of Joyboy’s crew (like all those who have the D. in their name).
2. At some point, in order to become King of the World, Davy Jones makes a deal with Imu.
3. Joyboy loses because of Davy Jones’ betrayal.
4. Davy Jones was supposed to become King of the World, but in the end Imu manages to get the better of him and takes the throne himself.

Xebec probably didn't have the whole Info.
Also, I believe that Davy Jones is related to Ancient Kingdom ruller.
So Davy Jones could be a prince of an ancient kingdom, like Vegeta, but he was never able to become a King. Also, because of Davy Back Fight, I still believe that Davy Jones was the first person who declared war against Imu. He believed that he was the rightful King, like Daenerys Targaryen, who believed that she had the right to rule the Seven Kingdoms, or even Egon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar. Another example is Aragorn, whose ancestors lost a throne, but only after a few centuries, the Real King returned. And this is who Davy Jones was. This is why he called himself King, but he wasn't.

What is notable is, it's only nations outside of the WG's umbrella that really know about Joy Boy and Nika and the like. But Davy Jones, even as a folk story, is common knowledge.

How did his legacy escape the Stalin-like un-personing that Joy Boy endured?
