Well, and the irony is, Vergo is hated by most because he is not that stereotypical edgy character with fancy looks and fighting style. Yes, as you said, a calm, stoic character who just hits hard.
Vergo has a coat, a buzz cut and a burger sticking to his cheek, using a bamboo staff as a weapon of choice. Those who understand Vergo are the least to be impressed by fancy looks, abilities and edgy character.
Vergo isn't edgy? Lmao all he ever does is fight people and look angry.
And he's clearly meant to be a tough guy with the look of a veteran soldier. Don't give me this "But he has a gag about food sticking to his face! He wears a buzzcut!!" nonsense. You know he's meant to look badass.
Again there's a reason his fans only talk about how much aura he has and how strong they think he is as opposed to, well, anything else about him.
Vergo fans just like to project themselves onto them. Is that an insult to them? Not really, more of what I've observed over the years. It's never actually about his character, he's exclusively brought up for powerscaling and nothing else.
He's a very milquetoast villain outside of powerscaling agendas. Even the whole "fighting with an unorthodox weapon" gimmick has been done to death. Between things like the Dials from Skypiea, to Sabo using a pipe to fight, to Katakuri using jelly beans as bullets, etc.
Tons of characters who use weird things for weapons or don't even need one at all (i.e Koby and Garp). I'm not so impressed by him.
