This whole self-doubt thing makes sense based on his childhood trauma.
What i find weird tho, is that Sanji never showed any self-doubt what so ever.
He is always confident in his abilities, he is ready to safe anybody, he is ready to throw hands with anybody, talks shit to anybody, etc.
The Germa plot obviously was not always a planned thing by Oda, but came only later on and i think that is the reason there is this inconsistency there.
None the less, i do like his CoC plot here.

Self doubt is very lazy choice of words by Oda here imo if true. Haven’t seen the raws for that yet. Rather than self doubt I think Self Contempt is the more accurate term. A contempt for who is at his very core (i.e. a Vinsmoke)

I'm pretty sure it's about his self sacrificing nature that comes from not appreciating himself, treating his life as expendable for the sake of others.nthere's no inconsistency here. He needs to overcome this hurdle to before a king, no king sees no worth in himself.

I don't see how him having to accept to be a Vinsmoke would be the key.
He hates his family and that's it. You don't have to accept what Family you come from to be ''Happy'' and not self doubting yourself or whatever.
Again, there would be no problem with all of that, if there actualy always was self doubt in Sanji, which just isn't a thing.

Luffy, Zoro and others who have CoC are ready to sacrifice themselfs anytime, don't think being ready to give your life away for others is a problem. I thing is shows strenght and determination. Protecting the ones you love is something every person would do and that has nothing to do with seeing yourself as less worth or anything.

The old woman on Amazon lily also noted how could someone with haki like that bow so easily - talking about Luffy. There is no such thing as having to ''act'' like a real King. And btw., a real King sees his people above himself.

Your idea is not wrong or anything, we just saw it with many other characters and similiar acts and they have no mental nerf or self doubt, but it shows their strenght and determination instead.

Edit:
I also remember people using that as an argument why Sanji should get CoC, it's because of his selfless nature and his readiness to safe others.

I see your point but that was not exactly my meaning. I'm talking about Sanji's self worth issue. Yeah it's true that sacrificing yourself for others doesn't not necessary mean you have self worth issues, however it's exactly that with Sanji and this issue especially highlighted in TB.

Zoro and Sanji each chose to sacrifice themselves for their captain but while Zoro entered that choice intending to survive whatever comes his way, Sanji intended to just simply die for his captain, and yeah that's courageous and noble and all, but there's a key difference between the two choices.

If Sanji valued his life he would do like Zoro and try to survive no matter the hopeless situation This same issue is also highlighted in WC. He chose to sacrifice his future for his crew and Zeff, no until Luffy came and pulled him out.

I don't remember Zoro trying to survive and not die, i remember Zoro saying take my head instead of Luffy's. Then Sanji came in and said what about your dream? Clearly Zoro was ready to die for Luffy. Him not dying from it, is obviously plot armor, but that's not why he sacrificed himself and was like ''yeah i am try to survive here''. But maybe i remember that wrong.

Sanji is royalty & his father is quite literally the ‘King of Germa’ who were the previous rulers of the whole entirety of North Blue. Germa that are notorious for their cruelty & are depicted as the main antagonists in the ‘Sora warrior of the sea’ comic strip. Not to mention Sanji has seen that cruelty upfront since his childhood. Royalty treat people beneath them as lesser than and basically garbage. Sanji hates royalty so needless to say the notion of becoming a King is prolly not an idea he’s very fond of. Hence the conflict with CoC imo. I think the narrative is ultimately going to boil down to Sanji having the potential for CoC but lacking the desire to become a King hence why it hasn’t awakened yet.

Its weird because it feels that Oda is setting him up so that he accepts he is a Vinsmoke.

That was my first thought too, that his picture of a King is that of Judge. A cruel leader who treats peoples lifes like trash.
But being a CoC is not the exact same thing as a normal King. Maybe Oda is gonna connect those 2 things just for Sanji's plotline tho.
But Sanji has seen other Kings that were good people, like Cobra or Ganfall for example. So gonna be interesting to see what Sanji is gonna see to change his view on it or something.

I think it’s supposed to be a callback to Baratie when Sanji was willing to throw his life and dream away just so he could repay a debt to Zeff, a debt Zeff never thought existed.

“He didn’t save you just for you to throw your life away” Sanji does this a lot where he feels guilty for people who sacrifice for him because they love him. As such he throws his life and dream to the wayside due to that guilt. It was mentioned in Baratie and mentioned again in WCI and even in Wano he was considering sacrificing everything that he was if Luffy told him it’d be a bigger help to accomplish Luffys dream.

“You have the qualities, but you have a strong self deprecation. Be a king if you truly want Luffy to be the King of the Pirates” sounds like it’s telling Sanji Luffy doesn’t need someone who is willing to sacrifice themselves. Being who you truly are will be more help to Luffy than being who you think he wants you to be.

Sanji has always been confident in his abilities. That kind of confidence anchors and raises self-esteem in most people, but most people haven't experienced what he experienced as a child:
  • loss
  • grief
  • abuse
  • dehumanisation
  • torture
  • imprisonment
  • solitude
  • starvation
Confidence in his abilities does not make Sanji confident he is worthy of receiving what he gives so freely.

It's important to remember just about everything about Sanji is influenced by and in service of others: he started cooking for Sora, became strong for Zeff, risked his life for his crew and swallowed his pride for Luffy.

He's selfless to a fault, and that's admirable to a degree, but also unhealthy and limiting.

Sanji has to learn to accept his value irrespective of what he can do for others. He has to learn to be selfish, and that being selfish is not inherently bad, and being selfless is not inherently good.

He needs to reach a balance within to plug the holes in his heart.

When Sanji learns to put on his own oxygen mask first, he'll have greater success helping others.

Lazy is the way
I've been telling y'all for years Sanji will fight Mars, and not because of flight.

He strikes me as the oldest and longest serving Elder. I think he will divulge some shit to Sanji when they fight.
Germa 66 days conquest happened 300 y ago

so yeah it’s safe to say the Gorosei Sanji will fight was alive back then or even directly participated in Germa downfall
