Brazil today is just a legacy team - they coast on their previous accolades but are bang average in all aspects.
They have 1 or 2 star players in a 26 man squad, 6-7 (heh) great players and the rest is filled up with players of passable quality.
Comparing this squad with the 2014 squad (as an example of a great pound for pound squad) would show how much they have declined just over the last decade.
But even the 2014 squad was average compared to the 2006 and 2002 squads, going by name value and match impact of the players.

You're right, Ancelotti's mistakes cost them the match.

There was no reason to bring on Endrick or Neymar so early.

I think it's nothing to do with Ronaldo Individual performance outside the WC but more to do with team future prospects. Portugal needs to come out of Ronaldo's shadow and build team around next gen.
