Powers & Abilities Is Gear 5 too silly for a great fight?

I don't have any issue with G5 but battle choreography was better pre G5. For example drunken mode Kaido vs Luffy pre G5 is best part of the fight.

Is anyone else annoyed with Gear 5? You guys remember when Gear 4 was introduced? the hype? Or even when he fought Blueno with gear 2? does it feel the same with gear 5? Did you really enjoy the silly cartoon fight of gear 5 luffy vs kaido after waiting so long for a yonko fight? was it really the epic fight we wanted?

Now imagine him fighting the main villain at the end of the story with the same silly powers!!

One piece has always been comedic,but the fights were still epic. gear 5 feels like "too much of anything...."

Take Egghead arc for example Gear 5 did nothing!! watching the anime i dreaded luffy scenes cause they were just slowing down the pace and did nothing.

Why can't luffy be in gear 5 but use the same technics as when he was in gear 2,3 or 4 but with awakening,i think that would have been a lot cooler.

Gear 5 feels like a whole different devil fruit!! Luffy has to learn to use new devil fruit powers.

I still hope it's all just planned as a "has to overcome the nika influence" type of plot. Where Luffy is basically like he's on drugs - feeling free - and he needs to learn that too much freedom comes with a prize, cause his friends can actually die, if he's fooling around.

Gaban's shit talk gave me real hope tbh. G5 by itself is not really the problem, it can be incredible if used right, all the over the top gag shit is what's hella annoying.

I'm not even sure if he used haki against Imu. It's like Nika mode makes him moronic

This would be interesting and I very much agree. Luffy doesn't have to go full edgelord form (wouldn't fit his style anyway) but a little seriousness could go a long way for the impact of special moments. If he stays this wacky forever we would never get another moment like before arlong park or the doflamingo fight when he finished Bellamy. And that would be so much wasted potential.

Luffy fighting in base form while using all the three haki types is peak combant. Whenever he pulls out gears especially something like gear 4th and 5th and especially against mid opponents like numbers and Lucci it honestly feels like he is jobbing. Like why would a yonko Luffy need gear 5th to clap someone Lucci smh.

He actually knows but explicitly said he doesn't care at all what they like or not. G5 was created exclusively for himself to have fun when he draws Luffy's fight.

I still can't believe that this was validated by his editors when he presented the idea, 25 years of Gomu Gomu no Mi and Luffy being his own character thrown in the trash for the most stupid and ugly retcon in the history of shonen.

No he wouldn't. Luffy doesn't need Gear 5th to beat a sub admiral opponent. At best gear 4th should have been enough.

G5 itself is not the problem. How Oda makes the fight it is. People were already complaining about silliness in big fights before G5.
