Well yes, as of today that is still not explained. I go even against my theory and I would say it's not even justifiable as using supreme king haki unconsciously (even if it's still possible).

But I would not be surprised if Oda get away with it without some kind of explanation.

And yet there was some emphasis on that, which sets it apart from other nonsensical stuff.
Also, consider that, for all intents and purposes, Sanji is a "regular human". the exoskeleton stuff is mostly just some enhancement, but doesn't give him magical powers like devil fruits.

yeah you can paint it as if it's something crazy and new, but you can't erase all the other times that something like this has happened
i don't fall for oda's smoke and mirrors, he can have characters claim this is a special feat and act all shocked about it but i'm not going to forget that this is pretty standard for one piece

While I may like Sommers more, I do think it's really cool that Sanji is fighting a mythical dragon zoan user and if I'm not mistaken, this is also Sanji's first full fight against a mythical zoan user.
