They didn't really fight, it was a clash in a war situation. Just like Aokiji started off with his lower tier DF moves against Garp before having a flashback and getting more serious.

I actually think the explanation lies around supreme blades. All the guys who wield supreme blades could never turn them black, with the exception of Mihawk. I think it’s probably much harder to turn a supreme blade black than it is for weaker weapons. This could easily explain why Aramaki achieved the black blade but somebody like Xebec could not, Xebec likely wields a naturally stronger sword than Aramaki’s previously unblackened sword.

In other words, I think Aramaki’s unblackened sword was probably like a good or great blade prior to being turned black. After turning black, it’s on the level of a supreme blade like Fujitora.

This is still unexplained yet. So still debatable. Even if this is the explanation GB should come in zoro way as obstacle to understand or achive bb.

The digitally colored manga enhances what we saw in the black and white manga: a black blade with a haimon pattern.

What Toei drew doesn’t even look like a sword, it’s a silver toothpick without even the haimon pattern clearly visible on the sword in the manga. Toei not only didn’t animate the haimon, they also seemingly didn’t even think twice about why Green Bull’s sword doesn’t look like a traditional silver bladed sword in the manga. It’s like they glanced at the page for 3 seconds and said “he has a sword so let’s draw a sword”, they paid no attention to detail at all and it shows in the abomination they finally ended up releasing.

People waited for the digitally colored manga specifically because Gigabull’s blade looked so much like a black blade in the black and white manga. People were wondering if the art simply made the blade appear black but Oda intended for it to be a standard silver haimon blade.

Then the digitally colored manga came out and reinforced the idea that it wasn’t supposed to be a silver blade, but a clearly drawn black blade.

You’re right, we should have never have had to wait for the digitally colored manga for people to acknowledge what was right in front of their faces in the black and white manga drawn by Oda lol.

Honestly, the only real question left could be whether he forged it himself. But as I've mentioned before:

If he has a Black Blade, it's because he forged it. If he weren't a skilled swordsman, it wouldn't make sense for Oda to give him a sword like that, let alone invent a random samurai just so Greenbull could steal a weapon he doesn't even use properly.

This became far more likely after Kuzan was revealed to be a brawler, which completely subverted everything we had seen from his fighting style up to that point.

The parallel is perfectly set up: Fujitora is a CoO expert wielding a Saijo, and Aramaki is a CoA expert wielding a Black Blade.

I didn’t say it’s more accurate, I said it reinforces what we already see in the black and white manga. And it also reinforces that Loei animation was just completely clueless in this area lol.

To be clear, if the digitally colored manga had also gotten this wrong, I would be out here stating that none of these sources were reading the black and white manga correctly. But the digitally colored manga, the OP Wall, and the databooks all interpreted the black blade shown in the manga.

Yep it’s basically just victory lapping at this point lol. And also the hype given to other fruitless Admirals benefits GB as well since all that hype establishes what the Admirals are capable of.

@Dragon777 Another point about the Databooks: one might be tempted to think that the Databook just quickly grabbed the coloring present in the digitally colored manga and didn’t think too hard about the coloring, but this is false because they digitally removed the blood on Gigabull’s vines.

So they did digitally remove blood on vines, but they left Gigabull’s black blade as a black blade.

Definitely. But tbh, we have consistency across all possible "paper" mediums:

- Manga -> Black (twice)
- Volume -> Black (twice)
- OP Day (colored) -> Removed the blood, but the sword remains black
- Colored Manga -> Kept the blood, but the sword is still black (twice)
-VC -> Removed the blood, but the sword is still black

And mind you, there are some minor discrepancies between the colorations as always (for example, his shoes). So they didn't work on the same color scheme to begin with.
The only thing that never changes is the sword lol.

?

First, isn't Imu also have a Black blade (Nemesis, and maybe Stigma)?

Second, there are only 15 renowned blades of the supposed 83 three numbered ranks that are identified in the manga, 5 of each numbered rank (5 Supreme Grade blades/5 Excellent Grade/5 Skillful Grade blades), two of these 15 are Black blades

There are also identified 2 Grade blades (not numbered rank) and 29 confirmed renowned blades of unknown rank (numbered or not).

And then there's Law's renowned blade, which supposedly has no rank (whatever that means).

What make you think Lolda won't pull more Black blades out of his ass? Like with Mythical Zoans?

Still seems like a pipe dream to me but I guess it would be cool. There's almost no way Ryokugyu would have a black blade and not fight Zoro though.
