Honestly, I just wish Oda showed the part of the fight leading up to what we got. Like, Sommers smacks aside Dragon Damnation and throws Zoro to the ground, then we cut away and when we get back Sommers is big chilling with Zoro "trapped " in thorns (seemingly more scuffed up? He seemed to be bleeding from the head and his facemask was gone at least, which he still had last time we saw him), strolling around wondering what was taking Killingham so long, and flexing Gram on random branches instead of on Zoro. Lol.

So whatever happened in between led Sommers to believe he was totally in control and could take his time, we just......didn't see it, for whatever fucking reason.

Like, even if nothing else changed about the fight but us seeing Sommers be more competent on panel BEFORE Zoro started dominating, it would just be much more fun to read in general.

I enjoy Sommers getting clowned and my earlier comment was largely a joke, but I agree about the problematic storytelling of cutting from and to these points in the fight. Like why show Sommers easily rebuff such a strong attack, then cut to him seemingly at match point, and then reveal that none of it matters at all. Zoro didn't even have to master his Haki to turn the tables, he just kind of did and the Haki bloom followed.

Effort wise this is the opposite of the storytelling he did with the Ryuma fight

Oda clearly portrayed one as stronger than the other in battle.
"Rival" "Wings" are terms that encompasse more than pure battle prowess. Technically queen has dangerous weapons on a battlefield that could've compromised the raid, that were rendered useless by chopper. They're simply not related to his actual 1v1 potential.
It's the same with the wing statement, they don't have to be equal in strenght, and you can understand this because zoro has you know, better feats throughout the manga.
