So this is what I sensed.
In fact, a trained eye will notice that between Whole Cake and Wano, Luffy gained confidence. So much so that I remember mentionning how Oda started to draw Luffy in a much more demonic way in this arc, with an expression close to the mischievous kind of demonic face he now depicts in Gear 5.

To quote a few...

And this confidence grew until Luffy started to enjoy the very action of fighting against Kaido, much like Goku.

This is not random.
This is the expression of Luffy slowly synchronizing with the very essence of his fruit both in term of personnality AND power.

Gear 5 is more than just joy and freedom, it's a demonic and mischievous loony toon kind of joy and freedom.

So it's not that Luffy is not Luffy anymore. It's that Luffy became more than just serious, he started to enjoy fighting, which in turn woke up his fruit and made him transform thus emphasizing this trance.

It doesn't mean that Luffy does not go to the maximum of his capacity, it simply means that he doesn't look the fights the same way anymore.

This is what Luffy's journey has been leading up to from the start.

wow

Gaban is factually superior based on his performance. Enough with the Kaido comparisons; Kaido faced the equivalent of a "fake" Super Saiyan—a "fake" Nika. Luffy could unlock a "Gear 7," lose to anyone, and you’d still claim those opponents are somehow "below" Kaido. A few interesting details: the Haki flame around Sanji’s leg resembles the one seen on Xebec’s arm.
The Zoro-Sanji moment was great; for those who think it’s something new or "cringe," I suggest checking out the old *One Piece* movies, where Zoro faces a kick-based fighter and Sanji faces a swordsman.
To conclude: Imu one-shotted and blitzed Loki in this form. We saw Imu’s Haki surge during the second instance—the fact that Killingham notices Imu’s Haki suggests Imu had just transformed. It’s likely that Loki managed to withstand the previous form, especially considering that characters like Hajrudin—and even Usopp, who calls it "the end of the world"—react to this current form.

A post of mine in an other place.

The thing is, how large do you think is Elbaf? Let's say Imu's final transformation towers all over Elbaf, what would it mean? His size itself would easily have the theoretical power to wipe out entire continents with an attack considering that Bajrang Gun destroyed land mass worth of 10 Onigashimas at least.

Also, I get the continent - multi continent OP top tier scaling but how are they small planet level again?
He can wipe out Lulusia with just a snap of finger.
