Aemond is inexperienced in dragon vs dragon combat, he mostly enjoyed his huge size vs inexperienced dragon riders or fought 2 vs 1 vs an experienced one in Meleys. Thats what I mean, also Daemon has a way deeper bond with Craxes then Aemond does with Vhagar.

Aemond fought more dragons atop Vhagar than Daemon fought on Caraxes tho. Pretty much all Daemon had with Caraxes was that he rode Caraxes for longer than Aemond and Vhagar.
Vermithor is great but Vhagar fought more battles.

Balerion starts with the advantage against any other dragon. He is the gold standard when it comes to Targaryen dragons at least.

I think the quality of fights and length of bond matters a lot in dragon fights like Daemon didnt need to tell Caraxes anything he would just sense Daemons intent and do it.

Vhagar , Caraxes and Vermithor and totally beasts in front of Balerion at their ages.
Balerion only advantage is he grew to the fullest. Also the seasoned Riders , Namely Visenya , Aemon , Daemon , Jaeharys.

Balerion in his prime is definitely the strongest dragon just by virtue of his size but any other grown dragon can kill him.

@Fujishiro that's what made Daemon and Caraxes OP. Their Dragon bond was so far the strongest we have seen , For fuck sake Vhagar doesn't even listen to Aemond in high valyrian.

The thing is the older the dragon is the tougher his scales are, Vhagar was a tank but she has one weak spot and thats under her throat I believe Barelion would have a similar weakness lol.

Vhagar not listening to Aemond is a TV show thing. In the books Vhagar obeyed Aemond completely.
Vermithor not letting anyone rear him until Hugh Hammer is canon though. Vermithor was too proud after 60 years of being with Jahaerys himself.

Balerion wasn't known for his Bad temper like Vermithor , Vhagar , and Caraxes. These were known to run wild when in battlefield.

@Cruxroux biggest Targaryen dragon and the only one of them to actually die of old age. Also a male dragon who saw more battles than Vermithor and Caraxes but less than Vhagar. Balerion also killed Quicksilver with ease like how Vhagar killed Luke’s dragon.

@Elder Lee Hung , Vermithor Dying age is 98~100 , and he was nearly as Big as Vhagar , Might be shy of 10~15 m. And Vhagar has said to live 184 years reaching the size of Balerion the dread.

Dragons are dragons. Their power level is pretty much whatever Martin wants once they reach maturity. Balerion vs Caraxes vs Vhagar vs Vermithor is whatever/either way.
