For me it’s more about being in shock over how people could possibly hold certain view points lol. I argue with people who disagree with me in power level threads for the same reason a scientist might argue against flatearthers lol. If more people actually used correct logic when forming opinions, the world would be a better place.

@Admiral Lee Hung Don’t get me wrong, I disagree with plenty of folks on this site...but I also feel like logic fails when the other person refuses to see things from a different perspective, and I think most of us are so convinced we’re right about any given thing that we fall prey to our own limitations.

If you compare OP discussion with any other manga there is a clear difference in discussion. Just compare Dr. Stone to OP. Dr. Stone is amazing manga with fights, science, comedy and all that. No one talks about power scaling and this and that - bcs it is pointless. And that goes for majority of other mangas too. Sure you will find several people that do but if you look closely it will be same people.

Point is, One Piece is just different. It has a certain toxic aspect to it and as much as i love OP as a series i'll always consider its fandom one of the worst on par with FT and DB

As for the self esteem thing, I can’t speak for others but 2020 has probably been the best Or second best year of my life lol. Both mine and my wife’s careers have taken off (especially mine since I got a promotion), I am earning my masters degree online, I’ve accomplished a few personal fitness goals for myself...I’d say 2020 has been pretty much the happiest I’ve ever been outside of 2016 maybe

@Natalija I think that’s basically what @Hawks is saying as well, people tend to get more heated over this series than most others. Maybe that’s due to the vast amount of characters/mysteries, and the author’s sliding scale of importance for both things.

Power scaling is also a part of my desire to insatiably consume manga content lol. Take shanks vs Akainu for example. We will probably never see shanks vs Akainu in canon, and thus discussing what would happen if they did fight us it’s own form of entertainment.

But I have to correct the shanks fanboys before we get to the entertainment part unfortunately. Lol

@Jew D. Boy: I don't debate with most people. The debates I do have with the few people I debate with are productive. We end up leaving the debate better informed on the topic and often change our positions as a result of the debate.

@Cinera I should have said this at the top - this status is not directed at anyone who’s liable to comment on one of my posts. I think we both know there are people here who add nothing constructive, but sure add a lot of what little they bring to any discussion.

Yeah, in retrospect it wasn't directed at me. I don't like psychoanalysing random people online. I think it's largely bullshit as a practice (your results aren't necessarily accurate), but I also think it's very disrespectful.
