What about the series of note around here? Oda is, as far as we know, very healthy for someone in his position...and yet, we’re virtually down to a single chapter every month.

In HxH case, the author has severe back pain and even needed surgery. It takes a while for the pain to go away and drawing requires him to be in a sitting position for an extensive period of time. He stuck in limbo.

Oh shit, is that why there are so many panels that look like first drafts/outlines?? That really took me out of the story when I tried reading the whole series last year...

That's right. You can notice steady art improvement for every long running author but HxH barely made any progress. The author doesnt have many opportunities to practice to rushes through some drawings before his back pain comes back.

As for the author of Berserk, it's just old age and the years of lacking any substantial rest catching up to him.
