I say he respects his strength but kaido wasn’t even afraid of feeding big mom then unchaining her to fight her. He respects strong people and anyone you respect you would have a certain dose of fear i guess. Tho what he has shown was surprise imo.

Idk maybe you are right but atm Kaido just comes off as a contradiction. Oda has done shit job with him, first he cheats to beat Oden, then kills the very woman who saved her, and then double crosses Oden again and now he has flash back of Oden right when ***** coming to kill him as if Oden is coming to kill him

He has flashback of oden because it’s his scabbards and they were channeling his will, I guess he somehow same him through that, thus his pause of surprise.

@HA001 hence the surprise of seing him alive and coming at him. He is supposed to be dead after all. The whole thing was to portray the scabbards carrying his will and oden litteraly manifesting through them.

I think his military might increased which Oden was referring to but it doesn't make sense for me to have someone like Kaido born with more raw talent than anyone didn't reach his prime in mid 30s while Shanks and Mihawk reached in their late 20s.
Like how does he even get strong? We know Yonkou don't constantly fight each other, they are usually stagnant in their own territories and hardly make a move

Kaido just got severely wounded, in the heat of battle he probably got up in pain and probably rage, saw oden turned and clubbed him.

But WB himself seemed stagnant after Roger. He said he hasn't heard the name of red hair in ages @Fujishiro
How would he even get stronger? His move set seems the same, his DF seems the same. His main strength is his durability and he was already "Invincible master" and fact that Oden gives him PTSD still meaning he thinks Oden has skill to wound him again if he lands a hit.
