Icosahedral quasicrystals (IQCs) are structures featuring a photonic band gap due to a periodicity in the dielectric properties of the materials, a component dictating the range of photon frequencies which are allowed to pass through them. The spatial arrangement of an atomic lattice determines such gaps.
