In that sense, Roger is also not your "typical" pirate who steals/plunders/loots the people. Also, Roger teamed up with Garp "the marine" to defeat Rocks. Roger entrusted his son to Garp and not to any of his crew mates . Also, Gol. "D". Roger fought Rocks to protect Celestal Dragons. I don't think Roger is so "typical" as a pirate.

I think less of Garp than the average pile of dog faeces so that doesn’t really matter to me. The fact that Roger entrusted his son to a neglectful, abusive maniac only cements him in my mind as an asshole. Protecting Celestial Dragons? Same damn thing. Asshole does not equal interesting. Shanks on the other hand, we don’t know anything about what he’s doing or what he wants, so there’s much ambiguity to speculate.

Seeing as Roger behaved irresponsibly towards Ace, protected Celestial Dragons and destroyed Squard’s crew for petty reasons, he was indeed an asshole.

I don’t think Roger behaved irresponsibly towards Ace, considering the situation..as a father he actually did his best to secure the safety of his child by entrusting him to Garp and he knew Garp was going to take care of Ace despite being a marine.

Mihawk is by far the most boring character. He's a loner and his personality is very dull. He's also a dog of WG. He goes to sea with a small boat and hunt fodders like Krieg. His motivation seems to be generic as well, like waiting for someone stronger to come and challenge his title.

As for Roger, he was the Pirate King, the freest man. He conquered the Grandline and uncovered the secrets of the world.

@Haoshoku i think it’s very irresponsible to have a kid knowing that A) you’re about to die and B) you’re putting his mother at risk too. Roger didn’t even leave a posthumous message for Ace meaning that Ace grew up only knowing his dad through second hand information. What kind of terrible parent does that? Garp also dumped Ace in the care of mountain bandits so Roger may as well have entrusted him to Dadan

My anology in terms of whose more interesting. Mihawk is like a size of an ant, wheras Roger is an elephant.

Garp probably didn’t allow for a message but regardless this is how most parents in One Piece have acted tbh, Dragon also lowkey did the same but yeah I can see where you are coming from. I still think Oda was trying to send the message that Roger did what he could.

The topic is about a character you think is not interesting. As for denden, it's Roger. And for me, it's Mihawk. Since denden is a Mihawk fan, then why not compare him to Roger, to see whose more interesting. It's in the conversation @Haoshoku

I mean it ain’t that hard to write a message to your son if you got the time to make a grand master plan about your execution. Leave it with Ray, with Crocus, even record it on a den den Mushi, yet Roger didn’t even do that.

@Brix I still don’t see the reason why Mihawk should be brought up in this conversation even if the OP likes Mihawk. They’re different characters in two different generations and the topic was strictly on Roger not a free for all for which characters are interesting or not. Also to everyone here, let us not turn this into flame war, people like and dislike characters for many different reasons, to each their own.
