If we’re supposed to see Oden as valiant or patriotic, Yamato is neither of that. She just celeb worships Momo. If he were anyone else like O Tama, she could care less. She doesn’t care about Wano and doesn’t seem to have tried very hard, if at all, to undermine Kaido outside of when Ace visited. Wtf has she been doing with her life?

Pudding has a more compelling backstory than Yamato. She’s just so boring. Substitute her with any random kid who witnessed the execution and nothing changes. There’s nothing original, nothing special, nothing to root for. She wants to be free and then what? She’s done nothing with her life thus far and doesn’t want to do anything in the future either.

I do not think this is a valid criticism. It is not actually feasible for Yamato to do anything to make the life of the Wano populace better.

Yamato has fought back against Kaido several times and each time she did, she lost and was beaten.

Yamato seeks to open Wano up, but that requires defeating her father, and that's not a feat she's strong enough to accomplish by herself.

Any random kid that witnessed the execution and decided to model their lives around Kozuki Oden wouldn't have become a Yamato. Yamato's character doesn't work without being Kaido's only child. Yamato is not just an Oden worshipper.

* Have been imprisoned on Onigashima
* Be setup as the next Shogun by Kaido
* Have repeatedly fought Kaido since childhood
* Have the power to challenge Kaido

Just because she’s on Onigashima doesn’t mean she can’t do anything. Send messages in a bottle to Wano warning them about any raids planned by Kaido or his men. Secretly bring food to his prisoners. Help them fake their deaths. Do something. Anything. Don’t just sit there like a generic princess in a tower masturbating to the diary.

Her being Kaido’s daughter doesn’t really mean anything to me. She’s just another silver spoon brat. Any other kid could cosplay Oden. Substitute her for a blow up doll that occasionally spits out Oden fanboyism and there’s no difference. At least Pudding had her acting and her scene with Reiju. That was all her. Yamato is as generic as they come.

I don't think any of these options were open to her given the information about her that we have available.

1. Most of Kaido's prisoners are not on Onigashima. In fact the Wano suffering was not on Onigashima but on the Wano mainland itself
2. Yamato was not privy to the internal affairs of the Beast Pirates.

Yamato was metaphorically imprisoned in a Tower. Let alone that she never had the freedom to leave Onigashima, she didn't even have the freedom to wander around Onigashima. When Yamato was missing, King summoned the Tobi Roppo and tasked them with finding her.

Stretching the metaphor further, in the Tower in which Yamato is imprisoned — on pain of death — she can only visit a few rooms, and her location is monitored at all times.

When an opportunity to do something about the plight of Wano presented itself (the Raid), Yamato seized it and quickly offered her assistance to Luffy.
