Yeah but notoriety =/= strength. Same way Shanks meeting the Gorosei doesn't necessarily contribute to his hype (though I think it does to an extent)

Rayleigh was no underling though. While the others addressed Roger as captain, he called him simply "Roger", and Roger for his part addressed Rayleigh as partner.

@Admiral Lee Hung I brought up the point about his notoriety to emphasise that being the Dark King wasn't at all inferior to being a Yonkou.

Nothing to distinguish the two, Rayleigh is a Shanks prototype. Shanks is like a new age Rayleigh. Pure all around haki masters who fight with sabers. Rayleigh has the hype of essentially needing an army to capture, while Shanks has the feat of literally walking in on that exact army and stopping a war.
Cinera
Cinera
That's the notion I'm challenging. Garp for his part compared an old, rusty, decades into retirement Rayleigh with Whitebeard, calling them both Legends and advising that the Marines not attempt to capture him.
Cinera
Cinera
He stated countless men would be lost if they tried to apprehend him.

@ZenZu well Shanks walked into the war with his crew. Chapter 957 highlighted his top 3 members as being very strong and in possession of high average bounties.

The situation is not that comparable IMO.

Furthermore, Sengoku seemed to stop the war out of respect for Shanks (though I think attempting to fight another Yonkou crew then would have been lunacy on the Marines part).

I made a thread for the topic. Just because I don't like getting dozens of alerts on a single profile post.

Seeing how Shanks can get meetings with the Gorosei when he wants it, I think the hypothesis that Sengoku stopped the war due to respect is more plausible right now.

Shanks walked in with his crew against the entire Navy + Shichibukai. And the action of doing something should always hold more weight than a what if statement. He essentially acted out Rayleigh's hype and then some.
Cinera
Cinera
Shanks seems to be in possession of substantial soft power, but IMO that doesn't say much about his personal combat ability.

I think the Marines could've taken another Yonko without losing any top tier Marine lives but the cost to the younger Marines would've been severe.
Cinera

Well, Mihawk flat out refused to fight Shanks, so they lost the bulk of the Shichibukai's combat ability there and then.

I think the Red Hair Pirates walking in on the war like that demonstrates significant hard power, but we've been specifically told that they are the most balanced crew.

It's more than just Sengoku stopping the war, its Shanks stopping Akainu in his tracks, the latter didn't budge despite his no nonsense personality, its the fact that a Teach that was power drunk who was taking on both Garp and the Fleet Admiral, saying they can't stop him, somehow became reasonable when Shanks came calling. That's portrayal on another level entirely, not many if any have a big dick moment like that
Cinera
Cinera
1 mid top tier, a low top tier and 2 high high tiers (speculation on the RHP's top 3) would have been a lot to deal with for any of the parties at the war.

@Finalbeta we were talking about Prime Rayleigh vs Shanks.
