"We recommend that hosts, especially new ones, follow and enforce the set of additional rules below, but if a host desires to not do so, that is acceptable as long as they state as such in a visible manner in the Signups/OP of the game."

    General Mafia General Chat

You're one of the small handful of people I recognize and particularly look out for and respect in this and adjacent communities, someone with comparable experience to myself in many a vein in terms of hosting and moderating, and you have a very distinct opinion in some ways from myself as far...

Unfortunately, in practice, the reverse happened.

How do you feel about a community-wide recommendation with the expectation that hosts explicitly announce if they aren't following that recommendation?

So you just don't feel there should be any rules about OGI at all?

I would also point out that extreme situations tend to be why rules exist in the first place. Slurs evoke IRL lynch mobs murdering the respective minorities. Mixing out-of-game and in-game puts people in positions of having to share their personal information or lose out, or puts the site mods...

    General Mafia General Chat

Do you have a different definition of meta reading from me? Because people's play in old games just isn't the same as their IRL circumstances in my book...

I have seen that and the game was awful.

It's within the rules to lie about being busy, but it's not really within the rules to try to affect people's reads based on your mom dying.

    General Mafia General Chat

Yes, but why? Do you really consider it acceptable to put someone under pressure to reveal personal information? Should the game become about who can best prove that their close relative died?

Let's extend it then to see the reasoning behind it usually being considered as such... Angleshooting spawns angleshooting: Archon and Banana are both being pushed for low activity. Archon posts a picture of themself babysitting, saying they were too busy. Banana, who is in the hospital taking...

Nah, the not-very-game-focused additional effort is not nearly as significant as near-replacement levels of low activity, for context.

    General Mafia General Chat

Angleshooting. Absolutely. As I would posting a picture of myself with a baby to excuse low activity. (Seen that happen.)

I could say the same about posting an image that I claim to be a screenshot of my role PM.

Like, a trust tell is explicitly an agreement made outside of the game to behave a certain way across games, on the stake of your personal reputation outside of the game. It's explicitly bringing something outside the game into the game, and something that at least seems to have emotional weight...

At which point you wouldn't call it a trust tell. I mean, we can quibble over the use of the word promise, or agreement, or declaration of intent, but in the end you're setting up a contract that you have agreed not to break that is not specifically within the confines of the game.
